OpenShift Platform Engineer - Boeing Defence UK

Boeing Defence United Kingdom Limited seeks an OpenShift Platform Engineer to join the Infrastructure Team. The role focuses on the day to day support, maintenance, and enhancement of the RedHat OpenShift Container platform and the broader RedHat Linux server estate, serving multiple programmes including the Ministry of Defence Information Services.

Responsibilities
  • Implement, support, and troubleshoot RedHat OpenShift Enterprise deployments.
  • Ensure availability, reliability, and performance of OpenShift/Container platform environments.
  • Perform patching, software implementations, and upgrades to OpenShift platforms.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts for daily OpenShift tasks.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to improve efficiency and automation using tools such as Ansible, Ansible Tower, GitLab, and Jenkins.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults, document problems, and plan mitigation.
  • Support service and application migration activities for RHEL and OpenShift.
  • Contribute to design reviews and best practice implementation of container platforms and automation toolchains.
  • Participate in a 24x7 on call roster (approximately 1 in 5 duties) and support services via a team rota.
  • Monitor the Service Management tool for incidents, problems, service requests, and change tasks to improve SLA and KPI adherence.
Basic Qualifications
  • Hands on experience with OpenShift upgrades, installations, and configuration.
  • Experience with RedHat OpenShift Administration activities.
  • Knowledge of container monitoring tools and metrics.
  • Proficient in scripting for OpenShift day to day automation tasks.
  • Deep understanding of container technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift (v3.x & v4.x).
  • Experience with UNIX and RedHat (RHEL8 & RHEL9) administration.
  • Performance tuning and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with automation toolchains (Ansible, Ansible Tower, GitLab, Jenkins).
Preferred Qualifications
  • DevOps/CI CD process architecture and engineering experience.
  • RedHat Certification: RHSA or RHCE.
  • RedHat Certified Specialist in Containers & Kubernetes.
  • RedHat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration.
  • Fluency in at least one scripting language (Ruby, PowerShell, Python, or Java).
  • Experience working in a secure and high availability environment.
Other Details
  • Relocation: Not offered - candidates must reside locally or relocate at their own expense.
  • Shift pattern: 7:00AM - 7:00PM Monday to Friday.
  • On call rotation: approximately one on call duty in five shifts.
  • UK Security Check clearance required.
