You will work within a matrix organisation, reporting operationally through OMNIA Training and functionally through the Service Desk Incident & Request Manager. The role supports the design, implementation and maintenance of the Army Collective Training Service (ACTS) global network infrastructure, primarily within the UK with extensions to international sites as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, deploy and maintain secure, scalable network infrastructure across on premise, cloud and hybrid environments.
  • Ensure network architectures meet latency, reliability, throughput and availability requirements for Live, Virtual and Constructive (LVC) training systems.
  • Perform network traffic analysis, capacity planning and bandwidth optimisation to meet performance targets.
  • Implement and support resilient network solutions, including redundancy and fail over mechanisms for mission critical operations.
  • Configure, deploy and monitor routing, switching, firewall, VPN and intrusion detection systems in line with security policies.
  • Support the implementation and troubleshooting of mobile and RF communications technologies, including 4G/LTE and 5G, in complex or austere environments.
  • Conduct network testing, validation and performance tuning to ensure interoperability and real time data exchange across distributed systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering and simulation teams to translate technical requirements into network design specifications.
  • Provide technical support and fault resolution in collaboration with Through Life Support teams for network related incidents.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of High Level Design (HLD) and Low Level Design (LLD) documentation.
  • Support deployable and remote network solutions for training exercises and operational scenarios.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, changes and incident resolutions to support auditability and knowledge sharing.
  • Evaluate emerging networking technologies and contribute to recommendations for adoption or integration.
  • Any other duties required to meet the needs of the programme.
  • Formal offers to successful candidates will be conditional upon award.
Essential Skills and Experience
  • Proven experience designing and delivering mobile and RF network solutions in complex, multi site or austere environments.
  • Deep technical expertise in 4G/LTE, 5G and RF communications technologies.
  • Strong background in military or mission critical communications systems, including operational deployment and sustainment.
  • Experience implementing and supporting secure, high availability network architectures across physical, hybrid and cloud integrated environments.
  • Strong understanding of network security principles, including segmentation, encryption, firewalling and secure remote access.
  • Experience in network performance monitoring, traffic analysis and fault diagnosis.
  • Experience supporting deployable or tactical networking solutions, including mobile edge computing, mesh networking or tactical cloud environments.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, operations and training teams, providing technical leadership where required.
  • Excellent analytical problem solving capability and clear stakeholder communication.
  • Security cleared or ability to obtain (SC or above).
Desirable Skills and Experience
  • Familiarity with Live, Virtual and Constructive (LVC) military training systems, including Training Engagement Systems (TES).
  • Experience integrating network solutions with simulation, training or distributed exercise platforms.
  • Knowledge of defence communications standards and interoperability frameworks (e.g. NATO STANAGs).
  • Relevant networking certifications (e.g. CCNA, CCNP, CCDP or equivalent).
  • Experience using network monitoring and analysis tools (e.g. Cisco Network Analysis Modules, SolarWinds, Nessus) for performance and security assessment.
