Job Summary
GE Grid Solutions, Grid Systems Integration (GSI) are looking for a Cyber Security Expert to work on our High Voltage AC and DC substation tenders (bids/opportunities) and projects. The candidate will be based in our Stafford office. GE Grid Solutions, a GE Renewable Energy business, serves customers globally with over 2,200 employees worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Lead the cyber security scope for bids and tenders, ensuring solutions meet customer requirements, GE Vernova policies, and relevant industry standards.
- Review customer technical specifications, contractual requirements, and cyber security standards, and translate them into practical bid solutions.
- Define cyber security requirements and architecture for high voltage substations, including protection and control systems, substation telecommunications and communication networks, metering systems, BoP systems, and interfaces to SCADA, remote access, and third party systems where applicable.
- Prepare and maintain bid phase cyber security deliverables such as execution plans, compliance matrices, technical specifications, architecture diagrams, risk, assumption, and deviation registers.
- Support internal and customer technical discussions on cyber security during the tendering phase.
- Advise bid teams on cyber security responsibilities and required actions to ensure compliant tender submissions.
- Coordinate with suppliers and partners to ensure cyber security requirements are understood and reflected in their proposals.
- Participate in design and technical reviews to ensure cyber security is properly integrated into the proposed solution.
- Identify technical, commercial, and delivery risks related to cyber security and propose practical mitigations.
- Ensure proposed solutions align with OT cyber security principles such as network segmentation, secure remote access, system hardening, access control, logging and monitoring, patch and vulnerability management, backup, and recovery.
- Follow GE Vernova quality, delivery, and governance processes and contribute to continuous improvement of cyber security tendering practices.
Requirements
- Degree in Cyber Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong experience in cyber security engineering within Operational Technology (OT), industrial control systems (ICS), or critical infrastructure environments.
- Experience in the electrical industry, ideally within high voltage substations, grid automation, or similar power system applications.
- Demonstrable experience covering cyber security requirements for protection, control, telecoms, metering, and BoP systems.
- Good understanding of substation automation and OT system architectures, including technologies such as IEDs, gateways, HMIs, engineering workstations, RTUs, network switches, firewalls, and remote access solutions.
- Knowledge of industrial and utility communications networks, with familiarity with IEC 61850 environments.
- Practical knowledge of IEC 62443.
- Knowledge of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
- Awareness of NERC CIP is an advantage.
- Experience working with suppliers and cross functional engineering teams during bid or project phases.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
- Fluent spoken and written English.
Desirable Qualifications
- Professional cyber security certifications such as GICSP, CISSP, Security+, or IEC 62443 related certifications.
- Knowledge of utility cyber security requirements, grid codes, or customer specific security frameworks.
- Experience supporting customer facing technical discussions during tendering or project execution.
