Meta is looking for an Optical Deployment Engineer (Subsea, LH & Metro) who will be responsible for the deployment and support of one of the world's largest and most complex networks. As a member of this team, you will have a unique opportunity to be involved in projects related to implementation & scaling of the optical network at Meta. As an Optical Deployment Engineer, you are not afraid to propose new ideas, gather constructive feedback from others, and push forward to make these ideas a reality.Network Engineer - Optical Deployment Responsibilities:Deploy, configure, and support a large-scale production optical network that spans ULH terrestrial, regional metros and subsea networks, interconnecting data centers and Point of Presence (POP) sites across EMEA.)Create and maintain Engineering Design Packages for Subsea, metro, regional and long-haul DWDM rings/systemsGenerate implementation plans and provide technical leadership and guidance during deployment activitiesCollaborate with vendors/manufacturers to evaluate new hardware/software and create optical standards for network deployment teamsReviewing Acceptance Documents provided by vendors and subcontractors deploying equipment on our networkProvide technical expertise to network provisioning engineers for troubleshooting out-of-service or faulty circuitsPlan, schedule and perform network maintenance, repair and upgrade tasks as neededWork closely with Network Engineering, Logistics and equipment vendors & fibre providers to ensure seamless introduction of new optical technologies into the production networkProactively contribute to documentation, automation and processes as they evolveThis role will involve some pre-planned travel from time to timeMinimum Qualifications:Demonstrated hands-on experience deploying optical networksExperience with optical network design, installation and maintenance for service providers or enterprise networksKnowledge of optical theory, transport technologies and the operation of optical transport systemsExperience with field-based work on Subsea Deployments, POPs, carrier hotels, data centers and central office environmentsExperience with optical test equipment and optical troubleshooting experience using C-OTDR, OTDR, OSA, BERT and optical power metersTechnical knowledge of various regional Subsea Technologies including modulation, subsea amplification, power feeding equipment etcExperience creating rack elevations and other planned/install/as-built documentationKnowledge of Cable Landing Station & Data Center design and operational best practicesPreferred Qualifications:Experience of communicating and coordinating tasks with carriers remotelyExperience analyzing situations, utilize systems, tools and troubleshooting to resolve technical issuesEffective time management and organizationExperience working in a global team environmentDemonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologiesAbout Meta:Meta builds technologies that help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses.
