This team tackles some of the most complex data and performance challenges in the industry by applying scientific rigour, engineering excellence, and large-scale automation. The Opportunity

You'll help build, operate, and scale mission critical database platforms across on prem and AWS, supporting research and production systems where performance and reliability truly matter. To give a sense of scale: Each DBA owns 400 databases, so the emphasis is firmly on automation, self healing systems, and standardised fleet operations, not manual firefighting.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Building and scaling distributed database services at fleet level
  • Supporting large estates of PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL & CockroachDB
  • Driving high availability, performance tuning & disaster recovery
  • Designing automation for provisioning, upgrades, replication & monitoring (Python, Terraform, Ansible)
  • Partnering closely with application & research teams on low latency, high throughput systems
What My Client Is Looking For
  • Hands on experience running databases at scale
  • Strong Linux & Python skills
  • Exposure to AWS data services, containerised / Kubernetes environments
  • Familiarity with modern observability stacks
  • Engineers who enjoy solving hard problems with automation first thinking
