Job Description

Modelling and Tools Technical Specialist - 33134

The Environment Agency is fully committed to having an inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve and welcomes flexible working patterns including job share.

The work of the Environment Agency is vitally important to everyone in England. From air and water quality to conservation and ecology, we're responsible for protecting wildlife and creating better places in which to live. Using the right models, tools, and technologies is fundamental to every decision we make in protecting and enhancing the environment.

Responsibilities

You will be a part of the Modelling and Tools team, collaborating with stakeholders across Digital, Data and Technology Services, IT suppliers, and users throughout the Environment Agency. You'll contribute to forward looking IT projects, including the continuing development of our Central Modelling Platform, a cloud based environment designed to scale with future demands. You will help shape strategies that anticipate and respond to future modelling needs, manage and govern our modelling estate, advocate for consistency and strategic alignment in modelling practices, support the adoption of new technologies, resolve business challenges, and promote adherence to model management principles.

Experience and Skills Required

We're looking for a proactive communicator who is passionate about driving continuous improvement and delivering value to users. You'll be organised, self motivated, collaborative, skilled at gathering requirements, listening to diverse perspectives, and translating them into effective solutions. Experience with service management and cloud hosting is beneficial, as is awareness of open source tools. A growth mindset and a commitment to continuous learning are essential. You should have experience in service development and management, and a keen interest in emerging areas like data science and cloud technologies.

Equal Opportunities and Inclusive Workforce

The Environment Agency is fully committed to having an inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve and welcomes flexible working patterns for all vacancies, including job share. We support a diverse and inclusive workforce and have a Guaranteed Interview Policy to support those with a disability who are seeking employment.
