This role sits close to delivery teams and works alongside solution and enterprise architecture functions to ensure systems are designed and built in line with established standards and best practice.

The role is delivery focused and suited to someone who is comfortable shaping architecture, creating clear technical design artefacts, and working closely with engineers in an agile environment.

Main Duties:

  • Provide technical leadership throughout project delivery
  • Design and document service level architecture, including sequence diagrams and API specifications
  • Architect and guide the development of microservices using Scala and the Play Framework
  • Ensure services are cloud native and deployed on an AWS-hosted PaaS platform
  • Collaborate closely with internal Solution Architects to align designs with agreed architectural patterns and enterprise standards
  • Support the definition of non-functional requirements including performance, security, resilience and scalability
  • Act as a technical authority for delivery teams, reviewing and challenging designs where appropriate
  • Participate in technical and architecture communities, sharing best practice and lessons learned

Technical Environment

  • Scala with Play Framework
  • Microservices-based architecture
  • RESTful APIs and service-to-service integration
  • Cloud-hosted PaaS on AWS
  • CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment
  • Strong governance, security and compliance standards

Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience as a Technical Architect or Senior Engineer in complex, distributed systems
  • Strong background in software development, ideally JVM based languages
  • Hands-on experience designing and working with microservices architectures
  • Experience designing APIs and producing clear technical design documentation
  • Solid understanding of cloud native design principles and managed platform services
  • Comfortable working in agile delivery teams within structured, standards-driven environments
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders
