Senior Design Engineer

We're recruiting for a Senior Design Engineer to join a rapidly growing engineering business developing innovative clean technology for the global maritime sector. This position offers the opportunity to work on exciting projects designing advanced propulsion systems that reduce fuel consumption and emissions across commercial shipping.

Hybrid working, with 3 days per week in the office in Southampton for team collaboration.

The Role As a Senior Design Engineer, you'll take ownership of key mechanical systems, leading designs from concept through to manufacturing release. You will be heavily involved in 3D CAD design, producing detailed drawings, and ensuring designs are optimised for manufacturability, cost, and performance.

You'll work closely with internal teams and international suppliers, resolving design challenges and ensuring a smooth transition into production. You'll also support junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement across engineering standards and processes.

International travel (China - approx. 1 week per quarter)

Key Skills & Experience of Senior Design Engineer,

• Degree in Mechanical, Structural, or Marine Engineering
• Must have a background in marine, offshore, wind, or similar industries
• 5-10 years' experience in mechanical design for production environments
• Strong 3D CAD skills (Siemens NX, Inventor, or similar)
• Experience with fabrication, welding, or large structural assemblies
• Strong understanding of Design for Manufacture & Assembly (DFMA)
• Experience delivering products from concept through to production

Desirable:

• Experience with DNV, LR, or similar classification standards
• Mandarin language skills
