Back End Developer - SC Cleared (3+ Month Contract)

Location: Remote (with weekly on-site visit to Manchester or Croydon Hub)
Clearance: Active SC Clearance required
Contract Length: Initial 3 months, with strong potential for extension

Overview

We're looking for an experienced Back End Developer with active SC Clearance to join a high-impact delivery team working on secure, large-scale systems. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys solving complex technical challenges, and is comfortable working remotely with occasional on-site collaboration.

You'll be contributing to the design, development, and optimisation of Back End services that support critical government platforms. The work is hands-on, collaborative, and offers the opportunity to influence technical direction.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain robust, scalable Back End services.
• Develop event-driven and streaming solutions using Kafka.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested Java code.
• Collaborate with architects, DevOps engineers, and Front End teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and sprint ceremonies.
• Troubleshoot production issues and contribute to continuous improvement.
• Ensure all work adheres to security, compliance, and performance standards.

Required Skills

• Strong commercial experience with Java.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka (producers, consumers, topics, event streaming, etc.).
• Active SC Clearance (mandatory).

Nice-to-Have Skills

Experience with any of the following is beneficial but not essential:

• Spring Framework (Spring Boot, Spring Data)
• Postgres
• OpenSearch/ElasticSearch
• NodeJS
• REST API design and development
• WireMock or similar tools for API mocking

Working Model

• Remote-first, with flexibility.
• On-site attendance once per week at either the Manchester or Croydon hub (your choice).
