Job Description

Data Protection Specialist - £500/day via Umbrella - 2-month contract - Remote with occasional travel to Leeds - SCC FLEX CONTRACT

We are seeking a Data Protection Specialist to support a high-impact engagement focused on ensuring compliance, resilience, and best practice in data protection - mergers and aquisitions.

Your responsibilities as the Data Protection Specialist:

  • Interpret and apply data protection frameworks (UK GDPR, NIST Privacy Framework, ISO/IEC 27701) to ensure compliance and resilience.
  • Provide expert guidance on lawful data processing, data minimisation, and privacy rights.
  • Oversee and manage responses to data subject rights requests (eg, SARs, erasure, objections) within statutory deadlines.
  • Lead Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and embed Privacy by Design and Default principles into systems and processes.
  • Assess and manage third-party data processing risks, ensuring robust agreements are in place.
  • Support data breach and incident management activities.
  • Deliver staff training and awareness initiatives to foster a culture of privacy and data protection.
  • Ensure the organisation's approach to personal data aligns with legal requirements and best practice standards.

As a successful Data Protection Specialist, you will have:

  • Expert knowledge of data protection legislation and frameworks.
  • Experience data protection within context of mergers and acquisitions.
  • Experience managing data subject rights and conducting DPIAs.
  • Strong understanding of third-party risk and contractual safeguards.
  • Proven ability to support breach response and incident management.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience delivering staff training.
  • A proactive approach to embedding privacy into organisational culture and operations.
