Job Description

Role: Database Specialist

Salary: Starting from £40,000 to £60,000

An opportunity is available in the Group and Data Infrastructure team. The team is predominantly Bristol based but we are flexible with location and the role can be based in Bristol or Norwich.

A bit about the job:

The role will report to the Group and Data Platform Infrastructure Manager but will work closely with the DevOps and design team when required. Our primary database is PostgreSQL RDS, but we have Oracle, DB2, MS SQL, DynamoDB with Redshift & Aurora Postgres expected soon.
  • Identify, take operational ownership of and resolve (via the DevOps team) database issues that don't meet Aviva's IT and BP standards.
  • Working with the DevOps team to improving sustainability through performance/efficiency tuning & cost optimisation for the databases in the estate
  • Database consultancy & subject matter expertise to the DevOps team
  • Database consultancy to the Solution Design team when required to assist primarily with Tech Evaluations & PoC's


Skills and experience we're looking for:
  • DBA level experience of PostgreSQL RDS & AWS certification or relevant experience
  • Aurora Postgres & Redshift is essential
  • Oracle & MS SQL, AWS S3, EMR & Hive desirable
  • Can do, pro-active attitude. Someone who can leverage their technical skills and prioritise their workloads to deliver the best customer outcomes on time
  • Experience and knowledge of Aviva's Cloud environment processes desirable.
