Junior Engineer (Python)

Hampshire (1-2 days a week in office or more if you would like)

£35,000

We are working with a long established, privately owned, independent consultancy who offer independent scientific research, technical support and consultancy to Government, Defence & Industry. The team are known to hiring graduate and junior engineers and training them and supporting them in their early software careers.

Their work involves designing and conducting experiments to collect physical evidence of natural phenomena, developing novel techniques to solve important problems, undertaking operational analysis and creating technology demonstrations to show the state-of-the art in technology. This work forms the baseline in the creation of new ideas, technology and devices. Their work is increasingly collaborative across all scientific and engineering fields and the nature of R&D means that much of the work involves spending a significant amount of time on joint multi-disciplinary projects.

What your day to day will look like:

  • Planning and conduct of experiments to investigate and analyse scientific phenomena;
  • Operating complex instrumentation;
  • Extrapolating/analysing data to develop theories to explain phenomena;
  • Software development for data analysis and the generation of mathematical models utilising Python
  • Developing new products and ways of applying new methodology;
  • Developing innovative methods to improve existing products;

Your skills:

We're looking for someone who is maybe 6 - 12 months into their career and looking for a supportive place to learn.

  • You'll have the appropriate technical / scientific & engineering knowledge/background for application within the physical sciences or engineering domain.
  • Mathematical ability and confident undertaking coding in Python or Java.
  • There should be a strong willingness and motivation to learn the many aspects of independent scientific analysis, research and development
  • A good level of proficiency with all the major Microsoft packages: Word, PowerPoint, Excel etc. is also required.

They have 2 offices, one based in Hampshire and the other in Bristol. The requirement is a minimum of 2 days a week ideally in the Alton office, more if you would like, the rest of the time you are able to work remotely.
