What we do matters: making a difference to people's lives now, and for generations to come. We offer a diverse range of flexible working career opportunities: roles that are stimulating and rewarding. And it's important to us that we recruit from a wide range of professional and personal backgrounds - bringing different perspectives and experiences to our work.
This is a key role within our Data Services team, which is currently working to modernise Ofgem's data management through the development of a cloud-based data platform (using Microsoft Azure and the Cloudera Hadoop ecosystem). You will direct the technical development work on the Data Services Platform, working hands-on with engineers in the team, and acting as the main interface between the technical team and the project stakeholders within the organisation. It's an influential role where you'll have the autonomy to make decisions about new technology choices and be asked to lead the technical roadmap for the team. You'll be accountable for the end-to-end architecture and technical design of the Data Services platform and you'll support the team in translating technical requirements and designs, into actionable user stories and tasks.
We expect that you will already have practical experience of designing and architecting cloud-first data platforms that are likely to include the use of Microsoft Azure and the Cloudera Hadoop ecosystem. You should also have experience of integration with Business Intelligence tools and working with a range of web technologies. You'll be able to demonstrate a track record of accomplishment in providing technical leadership to an engineering community and you should be accustomed to delivering through agile methodologies. You'll need to have a good understanding of information security protocols and you should be able to promote and embed a committed user focus into your team's working culture.
