Platform Integration Engineer Devonport, Plymouth SF33730

Here at Babcock International, we're seeking our latest Platform Integration Engineer to work on a range of surface ships / shore establishment projects including installation design, physical equipment layout, power design, functional design and concept design. You will be based out of our Devonport Plymouth site. There will also be a requirement to visit our sites in Ashchurch and Bristol, so flexibility to travel is essential.

Main Purpose of Role

You will translate OEM information into system and platform integration / installation design. This will include the provision of the following: Equipment Guidance Package (EGP) production; Installation Guidance Package (IGP) and Category 4A Installation Specification production; Installation Solution (IS) production in accordance with the relevant MoD design authorities' business processes - JSP604

You will ideally have skills in the following areas:

  • Electrical and mechanical manufacturing and assembly drawing production
  • Undertake platform / site surveys in support of system / platform integration tasks
  • Apply domain knowledge to the installation design process
  • Advise system engineers on installation constraints to influence the system design
  • To co-ordinate production of design drawings from internal and external design sections and undertake technical review of the deliverables.
  • Provide support and manage technical enquiries from installation teams and design authorities with matters relating to system and platform integration

Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences

This Platform Integration Engineer will have experience in some of the following areas:

  • Electrical, mechanical and constructive installation process
  • Equipment electrical/mechanical integration
  • Electrical power design
  • EMC and TEMPEST control
  • Implementation of COTS into the military environment and supporting enclosure methods
  • Application of CE standards and how to create evidence
  • Wild heat and equipment cooling methods
  • Environmental standards, for example, shock, vibration etc
  • Security standards
  • Ergonomics and human factors integration (HFI)
  • Understanding of maintenance envelopes
  • Platform safety processes
  • Incremental installation design processes

And may have experience in one or more of the following domains:

  • Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance
  • Military external communications
  • Military communications networks (WAN and LAN)
  • Electronic warfare systems
  • RADAR
  • SONAR
  • Command and control systems
  • Combat systems
  • Software and hardware architecture design

Qualifications

Qualified to a minimum of ordinary national certificate (ONC) in an engineering discipline with at sufficient experience in an engineering position.
