Position:  Full time Contract:  Permanent Location:  London Salary: £25,000 - £27,000   The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) is a world-leading think tank which examines issues of global security, political risk and military conflict. The IISS has offices in London, Europe, Singapore, Manama and Washington DC.  This is an entry level position for a competent 1st line support technician to give IT support to the users and staff at the International Institute for Strategic studies.  Successful candidate will be working with 1 Systems Administrator & 1 Senior Systems Administrator in the UK with an additional support engineer in Singapore and report directly to the IT manager. Main role responsibilities and tasks  Support Services Provide desktop support to IISS staff in matters relating to Window’s operating systems, Microsoft Office and associated in-house applications. Basic Mac support.  PC Maintenance and Set-up Install and configure new laptops and workstations.  Perform laptop and desktop PC repairs/upgrades.  Assist with PC moves and changes.  Telephony Support  Configure IISS staff mobile telephones.  Troubleshoot phone errors.  Assist with Avaya phone system administration and hardware. AV Support (When required) General audio visual and video conference support to external clients and internal events.  Requirements: Proactive customer focused attitude Strong Windows 10 Desktop support skills and Office 365 Experience of providing support to remote users – for example in other IISS offices or home working Good knowledge of PC hardware including but not exclusively screens, docks, and printers. Experience of basic network diagnostics including desk cabling and patching Desirable Experience of Manage Engine Service Desk Plus Mac knowledge  Basic PowerShell Knowledge of Windows Autopilot and Microsoft Endpoint Manager Remuneration The IISS provides a full employment package. The IISS is seeking to appoint a Digital Project Manager to take ownership of several existing and planned new digital products which form part of our Digital First strategy. In this role you will have responsibility for evaluating a  website refresh project and launching a range of digital products in support of the IISS’ world-leading research and international events. Key duties/responsibilities Act as product owner and project manager on a number of digital visualization products linked to specific research programs. You will work with the business to define requirements and manage the development and launch of these products. Act as the technical SME for the existing IISS website working with external support partners and internal teams to provide training, manage CMS support issues, and managing the website development roadmap. Work with senior stakeholders to define the strategic business requirements and manage the development of a business case for a website refresh project. Requirements Essential Experience of working with stakeholders to define business requirements for digital products. Be technically aware, with familiarity in digital development technologies, including content management systems and development languages. Experience of working with a website CMS ideally as an administrator. Be familiar with best practices in the digital landscape, including usability, design, security, development and project management. Experience of managing digital development projects (including estimation and project plan development). Demonstrated ability to manage projects through the entire lifecycle of digital development from information architecture to prototyping, user testing, internal testing and bug-fixing. Experience of document business requirements for external tendering. Experience of working with external development partners to drive high quality delivery on time and to budget. Desirable Experience of Sitecore 8 or above would be desirable Experience with analytics suites, creating custom audience segments, automated reports, and custom tracking in Google Analytics and Google Search Console. The role will require a broad range of skills and whilst strong technical awareness is essential the role does not require programming experience and is more likely to suit project managers, business analysts or product owners. Summary of role: Based in London, the IISS is looking for an experienced data scientist to work with our globally recognized subject matter experts, to design a program of  data  science analysis on diverse global topics such as geopolitical trends, defense economics and conflict analysis. Our strategic long-term goal is to build a  data   science  unit, using a range of data science techniques that will enhance our current research programs and publications using exciting data visualizations  for politicians, academia, industry executives and the public to assist in understanding and visualizing trends, initiating public discussion and to inform our core external stakeholders. In doing so, we will focus on the geo-political and geo-economic data sets, supplemented by our own research portfolio. We want to explore defense spending data, the interaction between strategic political changes and economic trends, and other complex issues covered by our wide range of research programs. We are looking for a  data  scientist who wants to use analytical skills to contribute to the current political and social challenges in the global strategic studies arena.  This position will work with various research experts at the IISS to develop relevant questions, identify  data , carry out analysis and communicate results in our publications. Your task is also to build the business case to establish  data   science  as a new capability within our organization and to set up and manage your own  data   science  unit working closely with Research and Technology. The core tasks and responsibilities include: Development of data and statistical models in cooperation with the technical experts of the IISS. Assessing which problems can be cost effectively solved by the appliance of data science techniques or machine learning. Collection, structuring and analysis of large amounts of  Visualization and description of analysis results for different publication formats. Establishment of a network of methodology freelancers,  data suppliers and other service providers or cooperation partners. Strategic development of the  data science  capability within the IISS.   The successful candidate will: Hold a degree in a relevant field such as mathematics, statistics, computer science or business informatics. Have a background in social sciences with an emphasis on strong quantitative skills. Have strong technical skills and the ability to turn analytical know-how into code and models using tools such as R or languages such as Python. Have a proven track record in using data science toolkits (e.g. Python/Pandas/Scikit-learn, R, TensorFlow) as well as adding data sets from any sources (e.g. SQL databases, REST APIs or even PDFs) extract and further process. Have the ability to analyse complex relationships and enjoy solving challenging problems. Have the ability to visualize and explain work results in a way that is understandable for laypeople. Have a strong interest in geo-political and defense issues and their influence on politics, economy, and society.
