Amazon
Software Development Engineer, Data Center Builder Tools
Amazon
Software Development Engineer, Data Center Builder Tools Job ID: Amazon Data Services UK Limited The Data Center Builder Tools team is looking for an innovative, self-directed Software Development Engineer to build the next generation of real-time middleware and runtime software that powers industrial control systems across AWS Data Centers worldwide. Contribute to Amazon's vision of developing the safest, most secure, reliable, and efficient data centers on Earth. As a Software Development Engineer II (SDE II) on this team, you will design and build the software that sits between industrial hardware and the cloud - a unified, real-time data plane that lets control applications, device drivers, and cloud services exchange data reliably on industrial computing hardware. This is deep systems work: you will shape the runtime, the communication layer, and the protocol integrations that everything else in the platform is built on. In this role you will: Design and build real-time middleware and runtime components - the data exchange layer, type system, and communication patterns (publish/subscribe and request/reply) that connect distributed control applications across languages and hardware. Integrate with industrial automation platforms and hardware protocols (e.g. IEC 61131-3, EtherCAT, PROFINET, Modbus, OPC-UA, IO-Link) and the device drivers that bridge them onto the platform. Build the bridge to the cloud - reliable metric publication, command handling, and telemetry from the edge into AWS, with the right delivery guarantees for each data class. Work at the boundary of distributed and real time systems, where correctness means both the right result and the right timing - bounded latency, predictable behavior, and graceful degradation when connectivity is lost. Partner with a cross functional team of hardware engineers, controls engineers, data center operations, and security specialists to take features from design through to hardware validation. If you're excited by low level systems, real time data movement, and connecting physical equipment to the cloud at scale, this is the role for you. Key job responsibilities As an SDE II on this team, you will own the design and delivery of the runtime and middleware components at the core of the platform. This is a hands on building role with significant technical ownership and accountability over how the system moves and models data. Your primary responsibilities will include: Architecting and implementing runtime and real time middleware - high performance, low latency components that run both on embedded/edge controllers and in the cloud, with a focus on determinism, reliability, and resource efficiency on constrained hardware. Building industrial protocol and hardware integrations - extending the platform with new device drivers and protocol support and solving the hard problems of cross language, cross platform data exchange (type systems, serialization, memory layout, and schema/versioning). Owning the edge to cloud communication path - designing how telemetry, metrics, and commands flow between devices and AWS services with appropriate quality of service, backpressure, and store and forward behavior. Engineering for real time correctness - reasoning about latency budgets, throughput, and failure modes in a distributed system where the software is adjacent to physical control loops. Raising the engineering bar - driving strong testing (unit, integration, and on hardware validation), performance benchmarking, code review, and operational excellence for the components you own. Collaborating across disciplines-working with hardware, controls, security, and operations partners to turn ambiguous requirements into robust, shippable software. Mentoring and contributing to technical direction - guiding more junior engineers and helping shape the roadmap for the runtime and middleware layer. The ideal candidate has a strong systems software background and experience across several of the following: real time or embedded systems, industrial automation platforms and hardware protocols, distributed systems, middleware/messaging (pub/sub, RPC), and cloud communication. You are comfortable working close to the metal, memory, concurrency, and serialization timing and equally comfortable reasoning about how edge components integrate with cloud services. Strong problem solving skills, attention to correctness in the face of hardware and timing constraints, and the ability to work effectively in a fast paced, cross functional environment are essential. Experience with Rust, C/C++, or Python, and with technologies such as Industrial automation platforms, OPC UA, DDS/Zenoh or similar real time middleware, is a strong advantage. A day in the life AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS) owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain - and we're looking for talented people who want to help. You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion. About the team The Data Center Builder Tools team develops tooling for device frameworks, and device lifecycle management in AWS Data Centers. This includes both frontend and backend services use by internal development teams and on site customers. Our tools power the industrial controls systems deployed in our data centers. Diverse Experiences AWS values diverse experiences. Even if you do not meet all of the qualifications and skills listed in the job description, we encourage candidates to apply. Staff AI Engineer (AI Specialist)
慨正橡扯
We'd all like amazing work to do, and real work-life balance. That's waiting for you at Sainsbury's. Think about the scale it takes to feed the nation. The level of data, transactions and variety involved. Then you'll realise this is a modern software engineering environment, because it has to be. We've made significant investment in the standards and principles that shape how we work. We iterate, learn, experiment and champion ways of working such as Agile, Scrum and XP. So you can look forward to exciting opportunities across everything from AI to reusable tech. As a Staff AI Engineer, you will be the technical specialist connecting AI ambition to delivery reality across Sainsbury's Tech. This is a hands on engineering role with division wide scope. You will set the bar for how AI is engineered across the division, creating reusable patterns, defining standards and working across every Tech domain to ensure we build AI capabilities once and share them everywhere. The role is intentionally cross cutting. Where most engineers go deep in one team, you will go wide across many, identifying duplication, reducing friction, and leaving every team you touch with stronger AI engineering capability than before. This is not a policy role You'll write code, build proofs of concept, and solve hard problems alongside delivery teams. But your primary measure of success is the multiplier effect you create, not the features you ship directly. What you need to do Define and champion reusable AI engineering patterns, accelerators, and reference architectures that delivery teams across Sainsbury's Tech can adopt with confidence. Translate proven engineering workflows into reusable skills and agents that standardise delivery, reduce duplication, and accelerate teams across Sainsbury's Tech. Work across Tech domains (Customer, Channels, Supply Chain and Logistics, Argos, Data and AI Ecosystem, and more) to identify duplicated effort, converge on shared approaches, and reduce the cost of building AI solutions. Lead technical discovery and feasibility assessment for high priority AI opportunities, providing clear, evidence based recommendations on viability, effort and expected value. Build and maintain a living library of production ready patterns covering areas such as RAG, agentic AI, LLM integration, prompt engineering and responsible AI guardrails. Facilitate cross domain engineering forums, design reviews, and communities of practice, creating the conditions for AI engineering knowledge to flow freely across the organisation. Work hands on alongside delivery teams to accelerate them through complex technical challenges, pairing, coaching, and transferring capability rather than taking over. Influence the AI and data platform roadmap, working with Platform Engineering, Architecture, and the AI Centre of Excellence to ensure strategic tooling meets the needs of delivery teams. Contribute to engineering standards and guardrails for AI development, ensuring solutions are secure, observable, responsible, and aligned to our strategic platforms. Stay ahead of the rapidly evolving AI landscape, evaluating new models, frameworks and platform capabilities, and translating emerging potential into actionable patterns for the organisation. Champion responsible AI principles across every solution and team you engage with, ensuring outputs are fair, explainable, and aligned to our governance framework. What you need to know Deep, hands on engineering experience with AI technologies including large language models, generative AI and agentic systems. Proficiency in Python and modern cloud native development practices (Azure preferred). Practical experience with prompt engineering, retrieval augmented generation (RAG), fine tuning, and AI orchestration frameworks such as LangChain, Semantic Kernel, or equivalent. Strong understanding of data engineering fundamentals and how AI solutions interact with data platforms, pipelines, and governance. Experience operating across large scale enterprise environments, navigating security, compliance, and integration complexity. Familiarity with Sainsbury's strategic platforms (Snowflake, Azure, AWS, Microsoft 365 Copilot) is advantageous. Awareness of responsible AI principles and practical experience applying them in delivery contexts. What you need to show A track record of engineering impact at organisational scale, not just team level. You have made other engineers and teams more effective, not just delivered your own work. Ability to move from ambiguous problem statements to working solutions at pace, comfortable operating in uncertainty and converging through experimentation. Strong technical communication skills, able to translate complex AI concepts clearly for non technical stakeholders and articulate trade offs confidently with engineering peers and architects. A genuine drive for knowledge sharing and capability building, actively lifting the AI engineering skills of those around you. Excellent collaboration and influencing skills, able to build trust quickly across Product, Engineering, Architecture, Data Science, and leadership. Strong judgement on build vs. buy vs. configure decisions, particularly in a fast moving AI tooling landscape. Comfort operating across the full spectrum from low code AI configuration to deep pro code engineering, selecting the right approach for each context. High levels of technical curiosity balanced with pragmatism, knowing when good enough the right call is and when rigour is non negotiable What decisions I can make Technical approach, architecture, and engineering standards for AI solutions across Sainsbury's Tech. Selection and curation of reusable AI patterns, accelerators, and reference implementations. Recommendations on feasibility, go/no go, and scaling readiness for AI proofs of concept. Tool and framework selection for shared AI engineering patterns, aligned to strategic platform direction. Support we will provide Access to personal development tools including industry leader Bitesize talks, online self development tools, and internal mentoring/coaching. Direct access to Sainsbury's AI and Data platforms, tooling, and cloud infrastructure. A collaborative environment working alongside Product, Architecture, Data Science, and Engineering leadership. Opportunities to attend external AI/ML events and conferences. Technical development resources, including access to relevant learning platforms, certifications, and emerging technology previews. Benefits Generous colleague discount across Sainsbury's, Argos, and Habitat Competitive holiday allowance Private Health Care Bonus scheme Pension plan Flexible / smarter working policy Access to special offers on gyms, restaurants, holidays, retail vouchers and more Work-life balance matters to us. Staff AI Engineer (AI Specialist)
Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd
Salary: Competitive Plus Benefits Location: London Store Support Centre and Home, London, EC1M 6HA Contract type: Fixed-Term Assignment Business area: Sainsbury's Tech Closing date: 31 July 2026 Requisition ID: We'd all like amazing work to do, and real work-life balance. This is not a policy role. You'll write code, build proofs of concept, and solve hard problems alongside delivery teams. Amazon
Worldwide Specialist Solutions Architect - Database, Data & AI Specialist (AWS)
Amazon
Worldwide Specialist Solutions Architect - Database, Data & AI Specialist Job ID: AWS EMEA SARL (UK Branch) Are you passionate about building applications with NoSQL databases? Amazon Web Services is looking for an experienced NoSQL Solutions Architect to work directly with AWS customers to design cloud based NoSQL solutions using Amazon DynamoDB, a scalable and highly available server less NoSQL database, designed for mission critical applications. You will have the opportunity to work with prominent startups and large enterprises, helping them architect scalable NoSQL solutions using Amazon DynamoDB. You will dive deep into the details of customer problems and work with internal AWS service teams to create solutions that solve customer needs. You will partner with AWS sales, business development, solutions architecture, and product teams to develop the internal expertise needed to grow DynamoDB related revenue. Key job responsibilities Collaborate with AWS field sales, pre sales, training and support teams to help customers learn about and use DynamoDB. Provide definitive guidance for customers in choosing the right database services and approaches. Be a trusted collaborator for the DynamoDB service team as the voice of the customer for defining and prioritizing service features. Lead enablement by training Solutions Architects, Professional Services Consultants, and Technical Account Managers. Capture and share best practice knowledge with customers and the worldwide AWS solutions architect community. Contribute to the AWS Database Blog, service documentation, and reference architectures. Present at industry events to educate customers and evangelize AWS and DynamoDB. A day in the life As a DynamoDB Specialist Solutions Architect, you work alongside a team of NoSQL specialists spanning DocumentDB, Neptune, Keyspaces, ElastiCache, and MemoryDB. Together, you help customers design purpose built database architectures - and increasingly, that means powering the next generation of agentic AI applications. Your work centers on customer engagements where DynamoDB plays a critical role in modern architectures. You might spend part of your day designing a session and memory store for an autonomous AI agent framework, ensuring conversation state, tool use history, and retrieval context persist at scale with single digit millisecond latency. You collaborate with your Neptune colleague on the knowledge graph layer while you own the fast access transactional tier that keeps agents responsive and stateful. Other engagements are just as varied. One customer needs a multi tenant SaaS platform with complex access patterns. Another is building an event driven pipeline where DynamoDB Streams feed downstream AI orchestration. In each case, you design partition strategies, define GSI patterns, and articulate why DynamoDB fits this part of the architecture while a different NoSQL engine serves another. You also translate deep technical expertise into broader impact - building reference architectures, presenting to engineering leadership, and contributing to internal enablement across the specialist team. You share patterns across database boundaries, offering partition key insights to a Keyspaces engagement or reviewing a DocumentDB schema with fresh eyes. The common thread is helping customers choose the right database for each workload, use it well, and build architectures ready for what comes next - whether that's agentic AI, real time personalization, or massive scale IoT. About the team Here at AWS, we embrace our differences. We are committed to furthering our culture of inclusion. We have ten employee led affinity groups, reaching 40,000 employees in over 190 chapters globally. We have innovative benefit offerings and host annual and ongoing learning experiences, conferences. Amazon's culture of inclusion is reinforced within our 16 Leadership Principles, which remind team members to seek diverse perspectives, learn and be curious, and earn trust. Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or equivalent, or experience in a professional field or military Experience in IT development or implementation/consulting in the software or Internet industries Experience within specific technology domain areas (e.g. software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, data & analytics) Experience in design, implementation, or consulting in applications and infrastructures Experience communicating across technical and non technical audiences, including executive level stakeholders or clients Preferred Qualifications Experience working with end user or developer communities Experience in infrastructure architecture, database architecture and networking Amazon is an equal opportunities employer. Cloud Platform Engineer (Senior / Lead)
SimplyBiz PLC
Cloud Platform Engineer (Senior / Lead) Department: Technology Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time Location: London Reporting To: Description About the role We are looking for a hands on Senior / Lead Cloud Platform Engineer to shape and run the multi cloud foundation that our engineering, data and product teams build on everyday. This is a senior individual contributor / tech lead role at the heart of a modern hybrid cloud strategy. Our goal is to make cloud infrastructure effectively invisible and commoditised for internal teams: engineers should ship through self service golden paths and a well designed internal developer platform, without needing to understand the underlying cloud plumbing. You will treat platform capabilities as products, with clear APIs, paved roads, strong defaults and great developer experience. A defining part of this role is preparing our infrastructure for a future (or present) where some "engineers" are AI agents. You will design platforms, guardrails and interfaces that let both human engineers and autonomous AI agents provision, operate and optimise infrastructure safely - and you will use AI agents heavily yourself to automate and optimise day to day platform work. Security is central, not an afterthought. You will help drive a zero trust approach across identity, network, workloads and data, ensuring the platform is secure by default for humans and machine/agent identities alike. You will also work closely with our data function, helping design and optimise the data pipelines, data stores and large scale analytics infrastructure (for example BigQuery and similar warehouses) that the business depends on. What you'll do Design, build and operate our multi cloud and hybrid cloud platform across at least two of the top three providers (AWS, Azure and/or Google Cloud), plus on prem/hybrid connectivity where needed. Build and own an internal developer platform and self service "golden paths" that make cloud infrastructure feel invisible and commoditised for engineering, data and product teams; and their AI agents. Deliver everything as code: infrastructure as code, GitOps, reusable modules, CI/CD pipelines and policy as code guardrails. Leverage AI agents extensively to automate and optimise platform work-provisioning, cost and performance optimisation, incident response, remediation and documentation. Prepare the infrastructure for AI agents as first class "engineers": safe machine identities, scoped permissions, sandboxes, approval workflows and audit trails so agents can provision and operate infrastructure within tight guardrails. Embed a zero trust security model across identity, network, workloads and data for both human and machine/agent identities; secure by default, least privilege, secrets management and continuous compliance. Apply SRE practices-SLOs/SLIs, observability, capacity planning, resilience and blameless incident management-to keep the platform reliable and cost efficient. Partner with data engineering to design and optimise data pipelines, data stores and large scale analytics infrastructure such as BigQuery, including query, cost and performance tuning. Mentor engineers, set technical direction and champion strong platform and security engineering standards across the organisation. What you'll need to succeed Essential requirements: Extensive hands on experience designing, building and operating production cloud infrastructure at senior or lead level. Multi cloud experience across at least two of the top three providers (AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud), including a recognised professional level cloud certification for each of those two providers (for example AWS Solutions Architect / DevOps Engineer Professional, Azure Solutions Architect / DevOps Engineer Expert, or Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect / DevOps Engineer). Strong background in modern hybrid cloud architecture and connecting cloud with on prem/edge environments. Deep infrastructure as code and automation skills (e.g. Terraform/OpenTofu, Pulumi, Ansible), GitOps and CI/CD, plus containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes). Proven experience building internal developer platforms, self service golden paths and platform as a product to abstract away cloud complexity for engineering teams. Practical experience using AI agents / LLM based tooling to automate and optimise infrastructure work, and interest in designing infrastructure that AI agents can operate safely. Strong security engineering mindset with hands on zero trust experience across identity, network, workloads and data-including secrets management, least privilege IAM and machine/workload identity. Solid programming/scripting ability (e.g. Python, Go) and strong observability, reliability and cost optimisation practices. Desirable requirements: Experience working as a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) with SLOs/SLIs, error budgets and incident management. A third top tier cloud certification, or specialist security/Kubernetes certifications (e.g. CKA/CKS). Significant data engineering experience: designing and operating data pipelines and data stores, and optimising databases and large scale data infrastructure such as BigQuery (including query, cost and performance tuning). Experience preparing environments for autonomous or agentic workloads-sandboxes, scoped machine identities, approval workflows and audit trails. Experience in a regulated or fintech environment. Your approach to work: Pragmatic and hands on, with a strong bias for automation and eliminating toil. Product mindset- you treat internal engineers (human and AI) as your customers and obsess over their experience. Security and reliability first, collaborative, and comfortable leading and mentoring. Important to know Location: We have multiple offices across the UK. We have a new office in London which is becoming more central to where we collaborate in person. We have a flexible working policy with a few days per week in the office. Right to Work: Applicants must already hold a legal right to work in the UK without time restrictions and without the need for future sponsorship. We are unable to provide Skilled Worker visa sponsorship.
