Key Responsibilities Observability Strategy & Advisory Lead discovery workshops to assess observability maturity and define tailored roadmaps aligned to business and IT objectives Evaluate existing monitoring and observability capabilities within enterprise environments Translate business and technical requirements into actionable observability use cases Advise on tooling, platforms, and best practices including OpenTelemetry, telemetry management, SRE principles, and SIEM vs observability approaches Architecture & Solution Design Design end-to-end observability architectures covering logs, metrics, traces, profiles, and user experience Define telemetry instrumentation strategies and data pipelines Ensure observability solutions are scalable, secure, and cost-efficient Tooling Implementation Deploy and configure observability platforms such as Dynatrace, Splunk, Grafana Cloud, Cribl, and Elastic Implement OpenTelemetry collectors, agents, and SDK-based instrumentation Build dashboards, alerts, and automation workflows Integrate observability platforms with ITSM, AIOps, and event management tools Troubleshooting & Performance Engineering Analyse application, infrastructure, and network performance issues Lead root cause analysis and performance optimisation initiatives Enable proactive detection through alert tuning and anomaly detection Skills & Experience Deep expertise in observability frameworks, telemetry pipelines, and service mesh integrations Strong understanding of observability pillars: metrics, logs, traces, and user experience Expert-level experience with at least two major observability platforms (eg Dynatrace, Splunk, Grafana, Cribl) Solid understanding of observability platform architecture, telemetry storage, OpenTelemetry, and cloud integrations Experience with APIs, tagging strategies, and problem detection workflows Proficiency in Scripting and automation (eg Python, Bash, Terraform, Ansible) Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills Significant experience (typically 10+ years) in consulting, enterprise design, and implementation roles Desirable Experience Professional certifications in observability platforms or CNCF technologies OpenTelemetry or Prometheus associate-level certifications Experience working within DevOps or platform engineering environments Working knowledge of cloud and cloud-native observability tools (AWS, Azure, Prometheus, eBPF) Understanding of networking and observability protocols (eg Syslog, SNMP, OTLP) Experience integrating observability platforms with ITSM and alerting tools Guidant, Carbon60, Lorien & SRG - The Impellam Group Portfolio are acting as an Employment Business in relation to this vacancy.
