Nandos Chickenland Limited
Senior Software Engineer
Nandos Chickenland Limited
Salary up to: Competitive Senior Software Engineer - Web Experience Overall Purpose Build the customer online ordering experience, the web application customers use every day to order for delivery, click-and-collect and order-at-table, and help steer where it goes next. As a Senior Software Engineer , you'll be one of the most experienced engineers on the team. You'll work in React and our design language , and on the server and the services behind it. You'll take on the harder problems, and you'll raise the standard around you through code review and pairing. You'll also hold online ordering together as a stream. That means steering and prioritising the work inside it, breaking big pieces of work into something we can ship, and keeping the quality bar high as they land. The technical direction of the Web Experience products, and the day-to-day product relationship, sit with the Technical Lead. Your job is to own the stream within that, and to say so when you think the order of work should change. Online ordering is where you'll spend most of your time, but it isn't the limit of the role. You'll also contribute to the Nando's website and our other Web Experience projects when they need you. Coaching matters here too. You'll mentor engineers across the team, and we care that you do it in a way that leaves people able to make the next decision without you. The Customer Web Experience Team Our remit is a brilliant, brand-aligned web presence. We own the Nando's UK and Ireland websites , built on a modern stack and the Storyblok CMS , and the customer online ordering web experience across delivery, click-and-collect and order-at-table. We care a lot about accessibility, web performance and building experiences customers actually enjoy using. Our stack today is React and Next.js with TypeScript , tested with Jest and Playwright , and deployed on Vercel and Google Cloud . We hold our tools with strong opinions, loosely held. We pick what is right for the job, and we're always happy to move the team's thinking forward. We're moving to a more server-first way of building, and shifting logic out of the browser into backend services that other applications can share. We also care about keeping our domain logic separate from the framework, so the important code stays testable and the products stay easy to change. What You'll Be Doing Work with agile cross-functional teams to design, develop and maintain the online ordering web experience, with accessibility and performance built in. Work with our design system and PERi-Verse design language , contributing components and patterns back as well as using them. Ensure high-quality, scalable and maintainable code that meets performance, accessibility and security standards. Pick up work across the team's wider remit when it needs you, including the Nando's website and our other Web Experience projects. Server-Side Engineering & Services Build server-rendered experiences and the API routes behind them, choosing a rendering and caching approach that suits the job. Build and maintain backend services that can be scaled and shared across applications, and move logic out of the browser and behind them. Keep our domain boundaries clear, so business logic stays separate from the framework and can be tested without a browser. Design for failure in our integrations, so a problem at a third party doesn't cost a customer their order. Steering the Online Ordering Stream Steer and prioritise the work inside the stream, shaping what gets built and in what order. Break big pieces of work into increments we can ship, and surface risks and dependencies early, especially across the seams with other teams. Own the day-to-day technical quality of the stream, and make the case to the Technical Lead when you think the order of work should change. Quality & Resilience Keep testing practice high across unit, integration and end-to-end, so quality is part of how we work rather than a final gate. Instrument what you ship, with logging, monitoring and tracing that let us understand problems before customers do. See migrations through, including removing whatever they replace. Working With the Team Mentor and coach engineers in modern web technologies and development best practices, helping foster a culture of collaboration and innovation. Full time
Salary up to: Competitive Senior Software Engineer - Web Experience Overall Purpose Build the customer online ordering experience, the web application customers use every day to order for delivery, click-and-collect and order-at-table, and help steer where it goes next.
