Do you have a passion for Data & AI? Can you combine this with strong technical, analytical and problem solving skills? Then, this early career programme could be the perfect way to start your professional career.
What will I be learning?
On this programme, you'll experience working in London within a Financial Services company. Over the first 1-2 weeks with us, you'll complete our award winning Simulate academy to learn and develop in a supportive environment the skills and knowledge you'll need to successfully perform the role of a Junior Data Scientist. After, you will move to the client site, helping to deliver key outcomes alongside industry professionals.
What work will I be doing?
As a Junior Data Scientist, you will sit at the intersection of quantitative analysis, technology, and operations. You will work closely with senior data scientists, product managers, and brokerage desks to design solutions that optimise trade lifecycle efficiency, enhance market data quality, and automate legacy workflows.
Key Responsibilities:
- Data Pipeline Development: Build and maintain scalable data pipelines using Python and SQL to ingest, process, and store real time and historical market data.
- Operational Analytics: Analyse internal operational metrics (e.g., trade processing times, system latency, and STP/Straight Through Processing rates) to identify bottlenecks and operational improvements.
- Algorithm & Tooling Support: Assist in developing machine learning models and predictive analytics for post trade services, compliance monitoring, and data quality assurance.
- Cross Functional Collaboration: Partner with global sales, broking, and technology teams to understand business requirements and translate them into robust data models.
- Dashboarding & Reporting: Create intuitive data visualisations and automated reporting dashboards (e.g., using Tableau, Power BI, or Python based UIs) to provide actionable insights for operations management.
What will I be gaining?
- Training in both technical and soft skills to help you develop relevant skills and knowledge in your role in our intensive Simul8 training academy.
- A dynamic, hybrid work environment bridging advanced AI/Technology with traditional global brokerage operations.
- Continuous learning opportunities regarding financial market microstructure, trade lifecycles, and institutional liquidity.
- Experience working at a top (financial or tech) firm early in your career.
- Ongoing formal and informal support and training as you develop and learn in your role.
- Social events, as well as community, charity, and voluntary activities with other individuals starting their careers.
- The potential opportunity to convert to a permanent role with the client.
What are we looking for?
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Finance, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Technical Proficiencies:
- Programming: Strong coding skills in Python, alongside proficiency in querying and managing data with SQL.
- Data Ecosystem: Familiarity with data manipulation libraries (Pandas, NumPy) and machine learning frameworks (Scikit Learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch).
- Tools: Basic understanding of version control (Git) and BI/visualisation tools. Advanced Excel capabilities are highly valued for trading desk integration.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional analytical and problem solving capabilities, with a high degree of attention to detail and data integrity.
- Industry Domain: Knowledge of financial markets (Fixed Income, OTC derivatives, or FX) and an understanding of front to back trading operations are significant advantages.
Benefits:
- Alongside your starting salary, there will be a performance review every 6 months.
- Ongoing training and development support through one to one coaching and access to online training services.
