About the Role As a Senior Engineering Team Leader for Railway Structures, you will lead a small, high performing team of civil/structural engineers delivering structural assessments across TfL's railway assets. Reporting to the Principal Engineering Leader, you will provide day to day technical guidance, support delivery of assessments, and help ensure the safety, reliability and compliance of bridges and structures. This role combines strong technical capability with people leadership, requiring you to guide and develop engineers while contributing directly to complex engineering challenges, including occasional night shift site inspections to provide senior engineering oversight. Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities Lead and manage a team of engineers ( 5-8), ensuring effective delivery of structural assessment work programmes. Provide technical guidance and mentoring to team members, supporting their professional development and progression. Support the management of asset risk through assessment outcomes, contributing to maintenance, renewals and operational decision making. Provide practical engineering advice on structural capacity, defects, mitigation measures and operational impacts. Provide responsive technical support for urgent and time critical issues affecting operational assets, including occasional attendance at site (e.g. during possessions or out of hours) when required. Contribute to multidisciplinary projects, including structural modifications and third party works impacting railway structures. Engage effectively with stakeholders including project teams, asset engineers, suppliers and external parties. Support continuous improvement through application of best practice, innovation and efficient delivery methods. Role Requirements You will be a Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer (CEng) or able to demonstrate equivalent experience and competence. You will have knowledge, skills and experience in: Undertaking structural assessment of railway bridges, stations, buildings, covered ways and related infrastructure. Applying engineering judgement to assess asset condition, capacity, risk and required interventions. Structural design, assessment, maintenance, repair and strengthening of civil engineering structures. Relevant legislation, standards and safety, environmental and risk management principles. Technical assurance and quality control of engineering calculations, reports and designs. Supporting multidisciplinary engineering projects, including track and drainage renewal works and structural modifications. Managing or supervising engineering teams and developing early career engineers, graduates and apprentices. Planning, scoping and delivering structural surveys, inspections for assessment, structural testing, interim mitigation measures and structural assessments and identifying technical solutions to engineering challenges.
