Description
A few application tips
We want to help you put your best foot forward.
Here are a few things we look for:
- Clear, specific examples of your work and impact
- Relevant experience aligned with the role's focus
- A thoughtful response to any application questions
- A resume that highlights both what you did and why it mattered
If you're unsure whether your background is the "perfect fit," we still encourage you to apply. We value potential and growth just as much as experience.
Why this role exists
We're hiring our first Infrastructure Engineer to close a critical skills gap. We're looking for someone who deeply understands how our platforms are built, secured, and scaled, and who can lay strong foundations for everything that follows.
This role exists to bring hands-on infrastructure expertise into the core of our delivery teams, particularly for enterprise-scale data and analytics platforms. You won't be inheriting a neatly packaged system; you'll be helping us define how we do infrastructure engineering going forward.
What you'll be doing
You'll play a central role in building and shaping cloud infrastructure for greenfield and evolving data platforms. You'll work closely with data engineers, architects, delivery leads, and enterprise client teams to create secure, scalable environments that our teams can build on.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing and building cloud infrastructure from the ground up, primarily for data and analytics workloads
- Defining all infrastructure as code, ensuring environments are repeatable, maintainable, and production-ready
- Designing and implementing complex cloud networking, enabling secure and performant connectivity across systems
- Owning security and compliance at the infrastructure layer, including access controls, encryption, and enterprise constraints
- Working directly with enterprise IT and Security teams to negotiate access, networking, and compliance requirements
- Supporting multiple projects, particularly at early foundation stages, where infrastructure decisions have long-term impact
In your first 3-6 months, success might look like:
- You've independently built and deployed at least one live environment that teams are actively developing on
- You're confidently navigating enterprise security and compliance requirements without slowing delivery
- Project teams trust you to "just get on with it" when infrastructure work needs doing
- You're proactively identifying risks, gaps, and improvements in how we design and run infrastructure
What you'll need to succeed
We're looking for someone who combines deep technical capability with pragmatism and independence.
You might be a great fit if you have:
- Strong hands-on experience defining and managing cloud infrastructure entirely in code (Terraform is core here)
- Proven experience designing advanced cloud networking (VPCs, routing, peering, VPNs, subnet strategies)
- Practical, working knowledge of cloud security and enterprise compliance, including GDPR
- Experience designing infrastructure specifically for data processing and analytics platforms, not just web applications
- The confidence and clarity to work directly with enterprise IT and Security stakeholders to unblock progress
- The ability to take a brief, work independently, and proactively drive solutions forward
This role might not be the right fit if you're looking for:
- Cloud certifications (AWS Professional preferred, or Azure/GCP equivalent)
- Experience automating infrastructure deployment via CI/CD pipelines
- Strong scripting skills (e.g. Python, Bash) • Experience working across more than one major cloud platform
