JobTitle: Technical AuthorLocation: Bristol (Hybrid) Salary: Up to £65,000 (Depending on Experience) + BenefitsJob Overview:This role is essential for producing high-quality documentation that captures technical specifications, project methodologies, and compliance with safety-critical standards within an engineering environment. As a Technical Writer, you will collaborate closely with engineers, project teams, and subject matter experts to develop clear, accurate, and comprehensive technical documents. Your work will ensure that complex technical information is communicated effectively to a range of stakeholders and aligns with all relevant regulatory and safety requirements. This position reports to the Engineering Manager.Experience Required:
  • 10+ years of technical writing experience within an engineering or safety-critical industry.
  • Strong understanding of engineering standards, technical terminology, and documentation best practices.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a commitment to clarity, accuracy, and precision.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office, and document management systems.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Draft, revise, and manage technical documentation such as project plans, operational manuals, safety procedures, and regulatory submissions relevant to safety-critical engineering projects.
  • Create clear and accurate technical illustrations and diagrams derived from CAD models.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and subject matter experts to gather information, ensuring documentation accurately reflects current practices and compliance requirements.
  • Provide support by reviewing technical documents, reports, and papers for clarity, consistency, and adherence to applicable standards.
  • Develop and maintain documentation of technical procedures, workflows, and methodologies, including materials suitable for peer-reviewed publications or presentations.
  • Ensure all documentation follows established templates, formatting standards, and style guidelines, while maintaining a well-organized and accessible document repository.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to clarify technical content and ensure documentation aligns with project goals and safety-critical requirements.
