Job Description

You will be working for one of the UK's leading telecommunications companies - and in this contract it will be your job to lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of an enterprise-wide cloud data governance programme. The role ensures compliance with legislation and regulatory frameworks, reduces risk, and governs the secure access, retention, sharing, and disposal of data across cloud environments such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud.You will need to lead the development of a cloud data governance framework across Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud. Define and enforce cloud-specific data governance standards, including data residency, encryption, retention, and access control. Ensure consistent implementation across hybrid environments. Chair the Data Governance Group and provide assurance on cloud data governance adoption. Support the creation of a Cloud Data Strategy, focusing on governance and compliance. Work with Enterprise Architecture to design a cloud data platform enabling secure analytics and reporting. Advocate for metadata management, lineage tracking, and cataloguing in cloud systems. Build and maintain an inventory of cloud data assets and classify them based on sensitivity. Monitor compliance with GDPR, UK regulations, and sector standards in cloud environments. Implement policies for cloud data backup, disaster recovery, and incident response. Introduce cloud-native monitoring and logging to mitigate governance risks. Engage with internal teams and cloud providers to ensure governance standards are met. Collaborate with business and administrative units to define data quality requirements in cloud-based systems. Provide expert advice on cloud vendor governance frameworks. Deliver tailored training on cloud data governance and security awareness. Provide strategic leadership for cloud data governance aligned with company strategy. Advise senior leadership on data residency, sovereignty, and compliance risks in the cloud. Stay updated on evolving cloud regulations and industry best practices. Develop and track cloud data quality metrics and compliance KPIs. Produce reports on risks, trends, and improvements for the Data Governance Group. Monitor industry trends, cloud provider compliance offerings, and international legislation.To be considered for this contract, you must be able to evidence a strong understanding of information lifecycle management, data modelling, and metadata management in cloud platforms. Experience in leading a cloud or hybrid data governance programme. Evidence knowledge of GDPR, UK Data Protection, and cloud compliance standards (ISO 27001, NIST, CIS). Demonstrate experience with cloud-native tools (e.g., Azure Purview, AWS Lake Formation, Google Data Catalog). Evidence familiarity with data reporting and governance requirements in the Telecoms industry. Have excellent communication and influencing skills. Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking. Ability to balance technical governance with practical business needs. Skilled in working with both technical and non-technical staff. Experience managing data security in SaaS and IaaS platforms.
