Salary from £45,000
Up to 10% bonus

At Northern Gas Networks (NGN), we re on a mission to keep our networks, systems, and people secure in an increasingly complex digital world. To help us stay ahead of evolving threats, we are looking for a Cyber Security Engineer who is passionate about protecting critical infrastructure, building resilience, and raising security awareness across the business.

This goes beyond simply reviewing logs or fixing vulnerabilities; it s about redefining how security is perceived and integrated across everything we do. You will take a hands-on role in incident response, lead initiatives to strengthen our security posture, and be a key force in ensuring NGN stays ahead of evolving cyber threats.

Please Note: National Security Vetting is a requirement for this role

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Take the lead in detecting, responding to, and resolving security incidents
  • Proactively monitor threats, manage vulnerabilities, and maintain robust system security controls
  • Collaborate closely with Infrastructure and Service Delivery teams to safeguard our AWS and enterprise environments
  • Investigate and assess security events, prioritising critical risks and driving effective remediation
  • Conduct simulated attacks and lead awareness initiatives to strengthen our security-first culture
  • Contribute to the delivery of our NIS Directive Improvement Plan, ensuring compliance becomes a strategic advantage, not just a checkbox

What we are looking for

  • Experience with SIEM tools, logging, and cyber incident response
  • Strong knowledge of EDR/AV solutions, vulnerability testing, and management
  • Familiarity with Office 365, Active Directory, and network security (TCP/IP)
  • Understanding of SCCM, Intune, patching processes, and ITIL practices
  • Hands-on experience with Windows (essential) and Linux (desirable) environments
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS desirable) and web proxy technologies
  • Background in IT risk, controls, and cyber awareness

Desirable: ITIL Foundation Certificate, SSCP Certificate

We are Northern Gas Networks. We deliver gas to 2.7 million homes and businesses in the North East, Northern Cumbria and much of Yorkshire. That s around 6.7 million individual customers.
