Job Title: C++ Developer Salary: £60,000 Location: Hybrid - Stockport Hello, I'd like to present an opportunity for you to work with a growing company based in Stockport. They work in the manufacturing and packaging industry on a global level with offices in the UK, Asia, US and Europe. They were founded 35 years ago and have placed themselves as an industry leader with their specialty in custom CAD/CAM and design workflow management solutions which are supplied to the global packaging industry. They value feedback not only from their customers but also from their employees; if you have great ideas then don't be afraid to make them known! Their primary products consist of a CAD system for packaging design and manufacture which is written in C++ and a design workflow management system - a web application written in ASP.NET and C# with Visual Studio. There are also a handful of other smaller applications such as bespoke plugins and customer/partner solutions. They require a software engineer ideally with 5+ years of experience to join their development team to deal with an increasing customer demand. They currently have a team of around ten in-house developers who all have software/engineering degrees. You will be expected to play an active role in all aspects of the product development life cycle (analysis, design, coding, testing, documentation, maintenance), in collaboration with others. There are occasional visits to customers and foreign travel opportunities. What they'd like to see from you: 8+ years working with C++, a good grasp of the SDLC and a strong understanding of object-oriented software development principles. Additionally, the right candidate would have multiple of the following: Significant experience developing CAD/CAM/Packaging software A proven record as a software architect and designing large software systems Has managed and been responsible for the development of internal systems i.e. build systems/continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI / CD) A strong math background A strong understanding and experience working with OpenGL Interview Process: First Interview - would be over teams discussing experience and knowledge. The second interview would be face-to-face in the office and we would ask the candidate to bring along an example of his work, the requirements are as follows: The example work should consist of the source code for an application, brought with you to the interview, which you are prepared and able to demonstrate/discuss with us. We don't care what that example is, as long as it is object-oriented, written in C++ or C#, and entirely your own work. If you don't already have such an application you are able to show us: Please don't spend an inordinate amount of time creating one especially. A minimal solution, taking only a few hours of your time, will be sufficient. We don't intend this to be a painful exercise, though of course feel free to take it as far as you like if it proves to be fun! If you can't think of anything else, we would suggest creating a simple game, perhaps based on Dice, Blackjack, Poker, Snakes & Ladders, Battleships, Monopoly or similar, the precise specifications/scope of which are up to you. Also, a short presentation: The presentation should be a short talk based on a topic that fulfils the following criteria: The presentation should last around 5-10 minutes. The topic must be relevant to software development. The talk must contain technical details about the subject matter. It can be something that you are personally interested in or passionate about so long as it is relevant. No visual material is required.
