GBM determines the eligibility of benefits for our card members, such as elite hotels, car hire, UBER, and access to airport lounges and a multitude of other unique and exclusive benefits. GBM has a number of APIs consumed by both internal and external teams and 3rd Parties. It is a modern platform with plenty of new development to meet the demands of new benefit launches with exciting benefit partners, keeping the work fresh and rewarding. GBM makes a difference to how card members are serviced by our CCPs and front-end portals. The team is continually encouraged to innovate, and we see many ideas being taken up by our product owners. Most of our work is in the top 50 enterprise initiatives.

We are looking for a high performing and enthusiastic Java Engineer to join the team. This role will partner closely with our product owners and agile champions within a collaborative scrum team, in an environment that values interesting challenges, using best practice testing and automation, and prioritises your professional development.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work within an agile team developing solutions to drive engagement and loyalty within our existing cardmember base and attract new customers to the Amex brand
  • Contribute to software builds through consistent development practices (tools, common components, and documentation) and enhancing practices where need be
  • Participate in code reviews and automated testing
  • Debug software components and identify code defects for remediation
  • Enable the deployment, support, and monitoring of software across test, integration, and production environments
  • Automate deployments in test or production environments
  • Automatically scale applications based on the demand projections
  • Partner with other development teams, testing and quality, and production support, to meet implementation dates and allow smooth transition throughout the development lifecycle
  • Influence team members with creative changes and improvements
  • Provide support to other Engineers

Minimum Qualifications:
  • University Degree in computer science, computer science engineering, or related experience required
  • Hands-on java software engineer experience and the ability to build high quality software using a modern development stack
  • Application design, software development, and testing experience, preferably in an Agile environment
  • Experience working with Git
  • Open-source frameworks experience is a plus - especially maintaining or contributing to open-source projects
  • Experience with continuous integration tools (Jenkins, Gitlab CI)
  • Experience with automated build and test frameworks
  • A proven hunger to learn new technologies and translate them into working software
  • Container and container orchestration technologies experience, such as Docker and Kubernetes, a plus
  • Experience with Atlassian software development and collaboration tools (JIRA, Confluence, etc.), a plus
  • Strong ability to develop unique, outside the box ideas
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving/quantitative skills
  • Willing to take risks, experiment, and share fresh perspectives
  • Aptitude for learning and applying programming concepts
  • Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external business partners
  • Contributions to open source projects/inner source is a plus
