SENIOR SCIENCE MEDIA MANAGER Salary: £42,000 - £48,000Reports to: Head of NewsDepartment: Policy, Information and CommunicationsLocation: Stratford, London. You'll manage communications that cover the latest innovations in cancer research and the charity's drug discovery and life sciences portfolio. You'll edit the team's communications and lead on the delivery of campaigns to national broadcast, print, online and specialist media, ensuring that our audiences know of the strides being made in cancer research. And you'll lead on the team's strategy through planning, editing and evaluation of campaigns, ensuring a test and learn approach to all that we do to maximise the impact of our work. What will I be doing?Leading the team on crafting and pitching opinion editorials to national and specialist media, which are aligned with the news agenda and support Cancer Research UK's science and policy thought leadership ambitionsLeading the team on building and maintaining excellent relationships with national, trade and specialist science press contactsManaging the team's editing processes and the overall process for sign-off of press releases, opinion editorials, pitches, video scripts and other communication contentLeading your team on planning, managing and delivering campaigns, features, opinion editorials and news stories to promote and build awareness of the charity's scientific research portfolioLeading on evaluation and impact of your team's media campaignsCommunicating on a wide range of issues surrounding the causes, treatments and early detection of cancerWorking with the Head of News on issues and reputation managementProviding out-of-hours duty media cover as part of the department rota. What skills are you looking for?Excellent communication skills including first-class written and oral skillsExperience of editing: opinion editorials, press releases, pitches to journalists and other scientific contentExperience of writing, pitching and securing opinion editorials in specialist and national mediaExperience of science communicationsExperience of working in a charity, research organisation or news organisationExperience of team and people management or demonstrable mentoring skillsAbility to manage, inspire and motivate a team and supervise others effectivelyProject management experience including skills in handling multiple projects simultaneously and under pressure to meet agreed deadlinesExperience of building and nurturing professional relationships with a diverse internal and external stakeholder group.
