This is a high profile and exciting role where you can make a real difference to national services and local delivery. The Single Digital Presence is a major strategic programme funded by Arts Council England and being delivered by the British Library. We will develop a brand new national website to represent all public libraries across the country and what people most love about them.
You will have experience in assessing technology options and approaches, confident working with modern technologies and standards, and you will feel comfortable leading technical teams and guiding the way they work. You will have experience in creating and optimising development processes while working on an emerging, iterative product, as well as the ability to explain technical choices to non-technical team members.
As the Technical Lead, you'll shape this exciting new service alongside a head of delivery, product manager, interaction designer, content strategist and a user researcher, as well as with strategic partners and agencies when required. It's essential that you enjoy working in a multi-disciplinary team, have experience in developing digital products and services, and are enthusiastic about the prospect of influencing the future of the library sector. Public library users are among the most diverse universal service users in the UK, benefiting from free access to reading material, Wi-Fi, tech, business support, children's activities, literacy development, health and wellbeing offers and much much more and we're passionate about their ability to change lives.

At present we have well over 170 million items, in most known languages, with three million new items added every year. We have manuscripts, maps, newspapers, magazines, prints and drawings, music scores, and patents. We make our collections and programmes available to all. We operate the world's largest document delivery service providing millions of items a year to customers all over the world.
