About the Opportunity

The Nuclear Technical Engineer role provides an exciting opportunity to join a team which provides a key role in supporting the Ministry of Defence's (MoD's) Nuclear Submarine Programme.

We are seeking personnel to work within our dynamic, customer facing Independent Nuclear Assurance (INA) team, delivering services to meet the MoD's requirements for the UK's future submarine programme. The role includes the provision of independent nuclear safety and technical advice in support of both in-service and future designs of Naval Reactor Plant (NRP), and liaising with a wide range of technical disciplines to provide balanced and proportionate assessment and advice.

This work requires knowledge of the design and operation of NRP, safety case development and methodologies, the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme and the ability to communicate with MoD personnel and their stakeholders. For candidates with less experience, appointment of Assistant Nuclear Technical Engineers will be considered and comprehensive training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities:

Provision of independent nuclear safety assessment and advice of nuclear safety cases issued in support of NRP
Provision of independent technical assessment and advice in support of NRP throughout its lifecycle
Co-ordinating the output across a range of technical disciplines to ensure that MoD are provided with impartial, authoritative, balanced and proportionate assessments and advice
Being the point of contact for the customer, attending relevant safety and technical meetings on behalf of INA
Conducting all work in accordance with the INA Quality Assurance Programme
Complying with information security requirements
Delivering to meet agreed programmes and budgetsHere's What You'll Need:

Degree or equivalent professional training in science or engineering
Knowledge/operational experience of the Naval Reactor Plant
Excellent consultancy/communication skills and the ability to work directly and effectively with the customer
Ability to work effectively across a range of tasks and liaise with personnel from multiple technical disciplines
Enthusiasm and aptitude for clear and concise technical writing is important
Familiarity with NRPA's NSMA, JSP 518/DSA02-DNSR, or ONR SAPs
UK Citizen as security clearance to at least SC will be required
