Xpertise Recruitment have recently partnered with a business to help hire some senior/Lead level PHP Developers.

This business operates in the Car Finance industry. They have an interesting product offering that they sell to traditional bricks and motor traders, solely web-based car dealers, and even traditional finance firms as white labelled solutions.

This is a business currently going through huge changes with the aim to become completely tech lead. They have recently appointed a highly charismatic CTO to help drive this transformation and move away from Legacy technology and processes!

Currently using a Legacy PHP stack (still using PHP 5.6) they are going to upgrade this to the latest version and introduce Node.js as well as a more modern approach to software development. They also plan to move towards microservices and implement serverless cloud architecture. For this to happen, some technologists at Senior dev/Tech lead level are needed to help drive these changes.

Ideally, I am looking to speak with people that have done this before, worked across varying tech stacks and have strong experience rearchitecting API gateways. However, the most important requirement for this is personality and having the soft skills to help existing developers in the business pick up modern development practices and get to grips with new technology. This is a great role for somebody currently Senior and Hands on, with aspirations to move into a strategic management role in the next few years.

Essential

• Experience of working in an agile team as a senior developer, designing, developing and supporting enterprise applications
• Experience of agile development approaches eg Scrum, Mob programming
• Behaviour and test-driven development approach
• Use of, and experience with, full stack technology, application frameworks and enterprise architectures
• Requirements Analysis - questioning, listening to and understanding stakeholders to extract their exact requirements
• Solution Design - Taking requirements and designing a solution that meets those needs accounting for the wider software ecosystem; to include selection of technology, tools, patterns/practices, maintainability, reliability, security, performance etc.
• Problem Solving - Ability to apply logical thinking in order to quickly and accurately derive the root cause of a technical issue
• Database design and development
• Knowledge and experience with DevOps practices, automation, creating and maintaining build and release pipelines.
• Experience of cloud-based technology (Azure)

Desirable

• Experience of API management tools (eg Azure, Apigee etc.)
• Experience of containerisation technology (eg Docker, Kubernetes etc.)
• Knowledge of microservice architecture
