Senior Python Software Engineer Contract: 6 month Inside IR35 Work Pattern: Mostly remote with occasional travel to either Leeds/London but not weekly We are looking for an experienced Python Engineer with around 5 years of commercial software engineering experience to join a modern engineering team building high-quality, secure and scalable serverless applications. You will work closely with the Lead Engineer to design, develop and enhance digital services, contributing to both technical delivery and the continuous improvement of the platform. This role would suit a strong Python developer who is confident working with APIs and modern cloud-based architectures, comfortable collaborating with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and experienced working within an Agile delivery environment. Key Responsibilities Develop high-quality, secure and maintainable Back End services using Python within a serverless architecture. Work alongside Front End engineers to implement technical designs, architectural patterns and coding standards. Design and integrate with third-party APIs and services. Collaborate with product managers, designers, architects and stakeholders to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions. Ensure applications meet appropriate standards for accessibility, security, data protection and reliability. Follow established software development, testing and release processes to deliver high-quality software. Contribute to automated testing, code quality, system reliability and performance improvements. Participate in code reviews, technical discussions and cross-team collaboration. Troubleshoot, debug and resolve application and integration issues across the technology stack. Contribute to technical documentation, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement across the engineering team. Essential Requirements Around 5 years of professional software engineering experience. Strong commercial experience developing applications with Python. Hands-on experience with FastAPI or Flask. Solid experience working with serverless architecture and deployment patterns. Experience integrating with third-party APIs. Understanding of software deployment processes, application monitoring and environment management. Experience working within Agile software development teams. Understanding of secure software development practices, including data protection and access control. Experience working in a secure or regulated environment such as healthcare, financial services or government would be advantageous. Desirable Skills Experience with React and/or Next.js. Experience developing and maintaining automated tests. Exposure to WebSockets or Real Time application patterns. Familiarity with modern authentication and authorisation approaches, including OAuth and JWT. Experience working with cloud-based platforms and serverless technologies. Note This role will be paid monthly NOT weekly
