LDMS
Cardiff, South Glamorgan
Location: Cardiff Hybrid Salary: up to £68,000, depending on experience plus a potential bonus up to £13,600 A hands-on senior role where you'll solve complex technical problems, deliver large and demanding pieces of work, and support the more junior engineers around you, at one of Europe's leading financial businesses About LDMS Founded in 2018, LDMS is part of the LC Financial Holdings group, a three-pillar organisation with over 950 employees across Europe. Between us we have more than 20 years of world-class credit expertise. We build digital lending software in a market growing around 18% a year. We want to lead that space, and to do it we need people who can think, create and challenge each other to find the best solutions for our customers. We have an ambitious to-do list: improving what we've built, building new products, and moving into new markets. The Role You'll join the Engineering team at LDMS as a Senior Engineer, working within a single team and reporting to an Engineering Team Lead. You'll take on challenging problems your team faces, including designing solutions to complex features and writing the design documentation that others build from. You'll work within the technical direction set by your Lead Engineer and be one of the people they rely on to turn that direction into working software. Our stack is React and TypeScript on the frontend, Java with Spring Boot on the backend, and PostgreSQL with schema-per-tenant multi-tenancy underneath, all cloud-hosted on AWS. You'll hold the quality bar for your team through code review, pairing and the example you set, and you'll lead the delivery of large features. Mentoring and growing more junior engineers is a core part of the job. As you develop, your influence will start to reach beyond your own team. This is a senior hands-on role, not a line-management one. Key Responsibilities These may change with the needs of the business, but the main areas are: Technical Skills Design solutions to complex features and write the design documentation that other engineers build from. Hold the technical quality bar for your team through code review, pairing and the example you set. Spot gaps in testing, security or performance across your team's work, and fix them or make the case for fixing them. Work within the technical direction and standards set by your Lead Engineer and feedback into them where you see a better approach. Watch for scaling, reliability and operability problems before they cause incidents and help keep the team's work observable and secure. Delivery Lead the delivery of large features, involving other engineers. Turn vague or unclear requirements into concrete engineering work the team can pick up. Keep the team's delivery standards up, and step in when they slip rather than waiting to be asked. Make sound decisions when the information is incomplete and keep work moving when requirements change or things get blocked. Impact Make a real difference to your team's output, quality and technical ability. Help junior and mid engineers get better through pairing, honest feedback and giving them work that stretches them. Contribute to department-wide engineering standards and documentation. Help shape your team's goals and technical plans and connect the work back to what the business is trying to achieve. Take part in hiring, running technical interviews and giving well-reasoned assessments of candidates. Communication Explain technical decisions clearly to both engineers and people without a technical background. Write things down well, such as designs, technical documentation and runbooks that other people can pick up and use. Help the team reach agreement on hard or contested technical questions. Give clear, specific and kind feedback in code reviews. Inform your Engineering Team Lead promptly when a piece of work is failing behind, rather than letting it surface late. AI and Innovation Explore new tools, including AI, and help bring the genuinely useful tools into your team's day-to-day work while being honest about where they fall short. Follow the team's agreed approach to AI-assisted work so that what gets produced stays consistent, secure and good quality. Use AI coding tools such as Claude in your day-to-day development, moving faster while keeping design quality, security and maintainability high. Essential Strong, hands-on expertise in Java (preferably Java 25+) with a solid command of Spring Boot. Strong relational database skills, ideally PostgreSQL, including schema design and migrations. A track record of designing and delivering complex features, with design work that other engineers could build from. Experience holding a quality bar through code review, pairing and example, and mentoring more junior engineers. Comfortable working within an established architecture and set of standards and improving them where you see a better way. Familiar with observability in practice, and how services are instrumented, monitored and debugged (for example Prometheus, Grafana). Experience keeping a codebase secure and current, including dependency upgrades and vulnerability scanning. Comfortable working with CI/CD pipelines (for example Jenkins) and a sound understanding of performance and scalability. Clear communicator, able to explain technical decisions to engineers and non-technical colleagues. Comfortable making sound decisions when the information is incomplete. Desirable Experience using AI coding tools such as Claude well as part of day-to-day engineering. An understanding of what it takes to build software in a financial environment. A widening base across the stack, such as performance, data, security, reliability and cloud so you can weigh up decisions beyond your own area. Experience working with cloud-hosted systems on AWS, and an understanding of hosting, scaling and cost trade-offs. Exposure to React and TypeScript, enough to work sensibly with patterns defined. Familiarity with tools such as Keycloak for identity and AWS S3 for storage. What's Important to Us Our passion is tech, but the people we bring together are the heart of the business. Over the years we've recruited a fairly eclectic bunch, with hobbies from gaming to ultra-marathon running, snowboarding to chess, hiking to climbing. What we share are our values: Teamwork Merit Develop Honest Impactful Integrity They might look like corporate jargon, but they mean something to us. If they sound like you, get in touch. Cardiff, South Glamorgan
The Role We are seeking a Senior Product Owner to take ownership of complex, business critical products at scale. Driving the right outcomes across multiple clients, markets and country configurations. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, you will set direction for your product area, make the hard prioritisation and trade off calls, and manage stakeholders from delivery teams, architecture, through to senior group leadership. You will work hand in hand with Engineering, Technology and Professional Services to deliver first class financial management software. This is a senior, self starting role for someone who has already proven they can own a product end to end and is ready to deliver complex work at scale, influence beyond a single product, and raise the bar for those around them. You should be comfortable defending strategy with evidence, leading through ambiguity, and treating AI and data not as buzzwords but as practical tools you actively apply to product discovery, decision ing and user workflows. If you are motivated by the depth and impact you can bring to an established organisation, and you bring a mature, professional approach to stakeholder engagement, this role is built for you. Key Responsibilities From time to time, the key responsibilities may change or be adapted to the needs of the business; however, the below gives an overview of the key focus areas. Product Ownership & Strategy Own and evolve one or more complex products (or a large product area) used across multiple clients, countries and tenants. Setting a clear vision and roadmap and defending it with reasoning when it is challenged. Deliver complex projects at scale, driving the correct outcomes rather than activity, and aligning delivery to LDMS's strategic objectives. Balance global product consistency against local market, client and regulatory requirements, anticipating cross product and cross market implications before they surface. Act as the ultimate point of accountability for your product's outcomes and the value it delivers, owning whether the bet landed, not just whether it shipped. Contribute to shaping product strategy beyond your own area, supporting the Head of Product on the broader direction of the product estate. Backlog Management & Prioritisation Orchestrate discovery, backlog health and prioritisation across a complex product or large programme of work, framing ambiguous problem spaces into structured, deliverable outcomes. Collaborate with group stakeholders to make and own high stakes prioritisation and trade off decisions with significant business impact, and stand behind them under scrutiny. Set the discovery and refinement standard using a product led approach that other Product Owners follow, raising the bar across the teams you touch. Drive delivery across multiple contributors and teams toward the intended value, managing project level risk proactively and removing blockers for the team. Apply effective tooling, cadence and organisational discipline to deliver at scale within an Agile / Scrum operating model. Requirements & Delivery Turn large, ambiguous business problems into clear, valuable, well shaped work. Working with external stakeholders to make understandable product decisions that engineering teams can construct with clarity. Gather, analyse and challenge business, functional and non functional requirements from internal and group stakeholders, negotiating the why / what / how where needed. Own and continuously improve end to end customer and user journeys across the platform. Support and steer delivery teams throughout the lifecycle, while adapting & shaping ways of working, simultaneously holding the line on Definition of Ready and Definition of Done. Use metrics and product health data to validate whether delivered value actually landed, and feed that evidence back into the roadmap. Stakeholder & Client Collaboration Manage stakeholders across a wide range of seniority, from delivery teams to senior group leadership, building alignment across competing interests and bringing people with you. Collaborate closely with Engineering, Technology, QA, Professional Services, Project Management and Service Delivery to deliver high quality solutions. Act as a trusted, credible voice of product to group clients, translating their needs and challenges into roadmap direction. Coach and mentor Product Owners, model mature product leadership, and actively grow the capability of those around you. Communicate priorities, progress, risks and difficult decisions clearly and confidently. Demonstrating the ability to have the hard conversations rather than avoiding them. AI & Product Innovation Set the direction for how AI, automation and data driven approaches are applied within your product scope to improve processing, decisioning, efficiency and user experience. Move AI from experimentation to embedded product capability, judging where it genuinely adds value and where it does not. Stay ahead of emerging trends in AI and financial services technology, and prepare your product and team for where the market is heading. Essential Proven, extensive experience as a Product Owner (or equivalent) in financial services, fintech or complex regulated software, with a track record of owning products end to end. Strong financial services domain knowledge: lending, credit, origination/onboarding or the servicing and administration of loan agreements. Demonstrated ability to deliver complex projects at scale, driving the correct outcomes across multiple teams and contributors. Excellent decision making and prioritisation under ambiguity, able to make and defend high stakes trade offs with business impact. Strong stakeholder leadership: influencing and aligning senior, cross functional and client stakeholders without relying on authority. Deep experience owning and shaping backlogs, discovery and requirements in an Agile / Scrum environment (JIRA, Confluence, Azure DevOps or similar). Experience with complex SaaS, multi tenant or highly configurable products serving multiple clients, markets or configurations. A mature, self starting operating style, comfortable with autonomy, accountability and having the hard conversations. Evidence of raising the bar for others, mentoring or coaching Product Owners and improving how the product team works. Desirable Exposure to multi country or multi regulatory product delivery. Hands on experience applying AI or machine learning within software products beyond experimentation. Familiarity with data driven product development, product health metrics and outcome measurement. Experience contributing to product strategy across more than one product or a wider portfolio. Technical fluency an added bonus but not required. Benefits Discretionary bonus 25 days annua leave (plus bank holidays) Opportunity to purchase additional annual leave 1 day Birthday Leave 1 day Charity Leave Private Health Insurance EAP Season ticket loan for transport Eye Care Pension (3%/5% contribution) Salary Sacrifice schemes (cycle to work and electric vehicle) Monthly socials Charity events
