Role: Data Architect Location: Victoria & Canary Wharf, London (Hybrid) Status: Outside IR35 Rate: Neg Duration: Initial 3 months Clearance: Active Security Clearance is mandatory. Candidates with clearance that has lapsed or not been active within the last 12 months are not eligible. Our client is supporting a major government transformation programme seeking an experienced Data Architect to lead the discovery and documentation of a complex Legacy data estate ahead of a large-scale digital transformation. This is an opportunity to play a key role in modernising a critical public service by analysing the current data landscape, identifying migration challenges, and producing the architecture artefacts that will underpin the procurement of a future replacement platform. The Role Working closely with business stakeholders, architects, systems integrators and third-party suppliers, you'll be responsible for developing a comprehensive understanding of the existing data environment. You'll assess data quality, document data structures and dependencies, and produce the outputs required to support procurement, solution design and future migration planning. This engagement will involve extensive stakeholder collaboration, workshop facilitation and technical analysis across multiple Legacy applications and data sources. Key Responsibilities Lead discovery and analysis of the current-state data architecture. Develop conceptual, logical and physical data models. Document data lineage, metadata, source systems and integration patterns. Assess data quality and identify remediation opportunities. Identify system dependencies, interfaces and migration constraints. Support the establishment of data ownership, stewardship and governance models. Produce high-quality architecture documentation to support procurement activities, supplier engagement and future solution design. Work closely with technical teams, suppliers and business stakeholders to validate findings and capture architectural decisions. Support the creation of supplier information packs, data rooms and technical procurement documentation. Essential Experience Extensive experience as a Data Architect within large, complex enterprise environments. Strong understanding of enterprise, application and integration architecture. Proven experience documenting Legacy data estates and complex system landscapes. Experience developing conceptual, logical and physical data models. Strong knowledge of data governance, metadata management and data lineage. Experience with data quality assessment, profiling and remediation planning. Understanding of migration architecture and enterprise data transformation. Knowledge of GDPR, information management and data protection principles. Experience identifying authoritative data sources and defining data ownership. Strong stakeholder management and workshop facilitation skills. Experience producing architecture artefacts for procurement or large transformation programmes. Experience using AI-enabled discovery, metadata analysis or reverse engineering tools would be advantageous.
