Big Science Sweden is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to support the delivery of two next-generation radio telescopes located in South Africa and Australia. The main focus will be on the computing infrastructure for monitoring and controlling the telescopes while processing and packaging scientific data. The successful candidate will join a cross-functional team responsible for the networking and compute hardware, engaging closely with project managers and technical specialists. This role is offered as a three-year fixed-term contract based at the SKAO Headquarters in Jodrell Bank, Cheshire, UK.

We are looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to help deliver two next generation radio telescopes - one being built in South Africa, and one in Australia. The primary focus of the role will be computing infrastructure that will be used to monitor and control the telescopes, and process and package the science data for the end users.While computing domain knowledge is beneficial, it is not required - the core of the role is systems engineering, including requirements, interface definition, verification, and lifecycle support. This person will be part of a cross-functional team responsible for delivering all the networking and compute hardware for both telescopes, and will work closely with project managers, systems engineers, technical specialists and suppliers. They will be responsible for the systems engineering activities pertaining to the procurement, installation and testing for a range of COTS-based clusters and storage systems. The role will report to the Head of Systems Engineering and will be known internally as Compute Systems Engineer. This role is based at the SKAO Headquarters at Jodrell Bank, Cheshire, UK and is a three-year fixed term contract.

The IT Service Manager will be the principal point of contact for all IT support matters and service maintenance activities, ensuring effective, user-focused, outcomes across the Observatory. Reporting to the Head of IT, the IT Service Manager will line manage the IT Support Analysts and will determine all available resources in the IT Team for project work whilst prioritising the delivery of the service. They will be in a leading position in the planning and delivery of project work relating to SKAO's core commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) as well as other enterprise services and communications and events platforms. They will be responsible for driving service improvements and platform enhancements across these systems, working closely with technical specialists and stakeholders to ensure solutions are effectively designed, implemented, and embedded into operational support. The IT Service Manager will lead the support and continuous improvement of event-related IT services, including collaboration platforms and meeting room technologies, for events held at SKAO premises and provide expert consultation for events at other locations.
