The post holder will support the implementation and maintenance of the systems used to protect computer systems and networks and track incidents. Role responsibilities include: Lead day to day operational security across the DDaT service, including incident response, cross team coordination, security assessments, vulnerability scanning and code audits Identify and resolve security vulnerabilities by developing technical solutions, researching emerging threats, building threat models and driving automation of security improvements Oversee phishing testing and awareness activity, working with the security analyst team and reporting outcomes to senior management Support the development and continuous review of cyber security policies, ensuring they remain effective in a changing threat landscape Act as the main point of contact for operational security matters, providing guidance and support across the council and monitoring security tools to manage risks effectively Participate in the out of hours rota, responding to alerts and incidents raised by the SOC We are seeking a skilled and motivated cyber security professional with a strong technical background, supported by a degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity or equivalent experience, and relevant industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CompTIA Security+ or CISA. You will bring proven experience in securing network and infrastructure environments, including firewalls, encryption, VPNs and endpoint protection, alongside hands on experience of vulnerability identification and remediation, for example through penetration testing and threat analysis. A solid understanding of security tools, monitoring, reporting and auditing, as well as familiarity with ISO27001 and modern practices such as patch management and DevOps or SecOps, is essential. You will have practical experience of protecting a range of systems and data platforms, including Windows and legacy environments, and be confident in monitoring network activity to detect and prevent intrusion. The ability to write secure code, for example in Python or similar languages, to support automation and continuous improvement is important, along with up to date knowledge of emerging threats and attack methods. You will be a strong communicator and collaborator, able to explain technical concepts clearly to a range of audiences and build effective working relationships across the organisation and with external partners. You will be self motivated, resilient and able to manage competing priorities in a fast paced environment, using sound judgement to balance business needs and technical constraints while delivering practical, innovative solutions. Experience within local government or in roles such as a security analyst or penetration tester would be advantageous. Cheshire West and Chester is seeking an ERP Data & Reporting professional to manage, analyse and optimise ERP data across council services, ensuring accurate and timely processing to support decision making. You will work with stakeholders to understand reporting needs, develop intuitive reports across multiple mediums, and drive automation while collaborating with ICT teams and Shared Services to improve data quality and service delivery.

Grade 11 £48,072 - £54,992 (as of April 2025 pay band figures) 12 months fixed term contract with the possibility of extension The Cheshire West and Chester Council Digital, Data and Technology (DDAT) department has recently undergone a huge transformation and is looking for a fixed term Infrastructure Projects Engineer to ensure the reliability, security, and optimal performance of the Council's cloud based systems-including voice, data, video, and wireless services hosted on cloud platforms. This role spans the planning, design, deployment, and ongoing management of cloud infrastructure, supporting connectivity across local and wide areas within the organisation. Role responsibilities Lead the design, delivery and ongoing management of the Council's network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN and wireless services, ensuring it meets current and future needs. Monitor performance, maintain security and resolve issues across the network, including management of firewalls, VPNs and core infrastructure (routers, switches and related components). Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance and continuous improvement of network systems, including upgrades, expansions and adoption of new technologies. Work collaboratively to develop and implement network policies, ensure regulatory compliance, and support disaster recovery to maintain service continuity. Provide technical leadership and support to IT teams, including mentoring junior staff and resolving complex network issues. Maintain accurate and up to date network documentation, and stay informed on emerging technologies and best practice to enhance service delivery. Qualifications and experience The ideal candidate will have a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience, together with a solid understanding of network technologies and environments. You will bring experience of system monitoring, configuration and troubleshooting, supported by strong analytical skills and a methodical approach to resolving technical issues. Knowledge of network platforms such as Cisco, Juniper or similar is important, alongside a sound understanding of core network security principles, including access controls and threat monitoring. Relevant certifications, such as CompTIA Network+, and exposure to a range of network technologies are desirable. You will be an effective communicator, able to provide clear technical support to colleagues and end users, and comfortable working collaboratively as part of a wider team. Organised and detail oriented, you will maintain accurate records of network configurations and changes, while contributing to projects and continuous service improvement. A proactive, self motivated approach is essential, with the confidence to work independently in a fast paced environment and the curiosity to keep developing your skills, particularly in emerging areas such as cloud technologies.
