You will work alongside a collaborative squad of engineers to design, build, and optimize scalable systems that integrate financial workflows seamlessly into our global retail platform Key Responsibilities & Measures of Success (KPIs) Project Delivery: Actively develop, test, and implement core engineering features to ensure the successful launch of the Embedded Accountancy project System Health: Maintain excellent coding standards, optimize backend logic, and ensure data integrity across our financial integration systems Technical Collaboration: Contribute to internal architecture discussions and cross functional planning to support our expanding engineering pipeline What We Are Looking For Commercial experience working as a Software Engineer, with strong foundations in object oriented programming, modern backend languages, and database design. Exposure to building or integrating APIs, data pipelines, accounting ledger logic, or cloud native platform services. A proactive mindset with the ability to translate complex requirements into clean, manageable, and performant code. In this pivotal role, you will lead the technical strategy and execution for a high-priority business initiative: our new Embedded Accountancy project. As a technical leader, you will bridge the gap between robust system architecture and complex financial domains, collaborating closely with external partners like Sage to deliver a seamless user experience. Key Responsibilities Drive Technical Delivery: Act as the technical lead overseeing the successful design, integration, and architecture of the Embedded Accountancy product ecosystem. System Integration: Collaborate closely with external financial service APIs (specifically Sage) to build robust, compliant, and highly secure ledger and bookkeeping syncing tools. Engineering Leadership: Provide exceptional mentorship, guidance, and strategic direction to engineering squads, fostering high standards for code quality, architectural integrity, and knowledge sharing. Cross-Functional Communication: Function as a primary technical translator between executive stakeholders, product managers, and engineering teams to align technical workflows with commercial business cases. Foster Best Practices: Champion a culture of excellence by establishing documentation standards, performance profiling frameworks, and robust system observability. What We Are Looking For Proven experience operating at a Senior, Lead, or Staff Engineer level within a modern, cloud-native technology ecosystem. Strong foundations in building microservices, distributed system integration patterns, and data schema architecture. Exceptional technical leadership capabilities with a track record of driving cross-functional alignment and mentoring junior-to-mid-level engineers.
