Position: Technical Writer Full time, located in Herne Bay. Kidde Global Solutions is a global technology leader in fire and life safety solutions. The Technical Writer will create high quality technical documentation that supports our products in the field, including datasheets, installation guides, user manuals and other customer facing materials. Documentation will be tailored to different markets and languages, aligned with product scope. The Technical Writer will work closely with the R&D team to ensure literature accurately reflects product design and captures all necessary user interactions. Key Responsibilities Collaborate with R&D and project managers to plan and deliver technical documentation within project schedules. Ensure targets and deadlines are met, and escape potential delays promptly. Contribute to the efficiency and quality of R&D operations. Identify risks or errors in product design or associated documentation and report them appropriately. Promote effective teamwork and open communication across departments. Maintain and ensure the accuracy of all documentation, keeping it up to date with product design changes. Compile and manage all documentation for new product developments, including datasheets, user guides, installation manuals, and training materials. Maintain document revision records following company procedures. Liaise with third party partners when collaborating on technical materials. Report discrepancies between product performance and technical documentation. Assist in creating technical drawings, diagrams, system maps, and architecture diagrams as required. Contribute to technical documentation planning and formatting improvements. Support translation of materials into different languages using CAT tools and machine translation. Collaborate with technical support teams to ensure customer facing documentation meets expectations. Support marketing and promotional activities with technical content for trade shows, presentations, and launch events. Assist mechanical design teams with simple assembly drawings or label design when required. Manage product data, images, and media on Product Information Management (PIM) systems. Create visual elements such as videos, diagrams, flowcharts, and infographics to enhance user understanding. Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required Proven experience in technical writing for customer installable and configurable products. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software. Competence with Adobe Creative Suite and desktop publishing tools. Basic knowledge of 2D/3D CAD software. Experience with Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) tools. Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines. Strong attention to detail and initiative. Ability to convert technical data into clear, plain language. Ability to capture key design points from detailed technical discussions. Ability to analyze and interpret technical and legislative documentation. Technical background or understanding of fire detection products (full training provided). Knowledge of fire and security standards, particularly in wireless fire and security products. Experience with single source publishing tools.
