Business Development Manager - Rail Infrastructure 70,000+ Basic Salary + 25% Bonus + Car Allowance + Benefits UK Field Based The Opportunity A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Business Development Manager to join the Rail Division of a global, multi-billion-pound technical distribution and supply-chain organisation . The business operates internationally, supplying specialist products, technologies and infrastructure solutions to customers across a wide range of industries. Its Rail Division is continuing to grow, creating an opportunity for an experienced sales professional to play a key role in expanding its presence across the UK rail infrastructure market. The position will focus on developing sales of trackside infrastructure products and technical solutions into the UK rail sector. The Role As Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for developing new business, growing existing relationships and identifying major project opportunities across the UK rail infrastructure market. You will work with key stakeholders throughout the rail supply chain, developing relationships and influencing projects from early-stage specification through to tender and contract award. Key responsibilities include: Develop and execute a business development strategy for the Rail Division. Identify and win new business opportunities within the UK rail infrastructure market. Build strong relationships with major rail customers, contractors, consultants and infrastructure organisations. Develop relationships with Network Rail, Tier 1 and Tier 2 rail contractors, engineering consultancies, system integrators and rail infrastructure businesses . Identify upcoming rail infrastructure projects and engage with key stakeholders at an early stage. Develop opportunities through specification, tender and project award. Promote a portfolio of specialist trackside infrastructure products and solutions. Work closely with manufacturers, suppliers and internal technical teams to develop customer-specific solutions. Grow existing accounts while identifying and developing new customers. Manage the sales pipeline, forecasting and commercial opportunities. Attend customer meetings, site visits, industry events and project meetings throughout the UK. Experience Required Direct experience selling into the UK rail sector is essential. We are looking for candidates with a proven track record of selling technical products, systems or infrastructure solutions into the rail industry. Relevant product backgrounds could include: Rail lighting and lighting systems Fire suppression and fire protection BMS and control systems Cables and cable management Electrical infrastructure Power distribution Communications and data infrastructure Security and monitoring systems Trackside infrastructure products Rail electrical products Specialist engineering or infrastructure solutions The successful candidate will ideally have established relationships with some of the following: Network Rail Rail infrastructure contractors Tier 1 / Tier 2 rail contractors Rail OEMs System integrators Engineering consultancies Rail maintenance organisations Rail project and procurement teams The Person We are looking for an established Rail Business Development Manager, Sales Manager, Account Manager or Specification Sales professional who can demonstrate: A proven track record of selling into the UK rail industry . Strong knowledge of the rail infrastructure market and supply chain. Existing relationships with relevant rail customers and stakeholders. Experience selling technical products, systems or solutions. Strong new business development and account management skills. Experience working through specification, tender and project-led sales processes. The ability to influence technical, commercial and senior decision-makers. Strong commercial and negotiation skills. A proactive, entrepreneurial approach to business development. The ability to operate autonomously across a national territory.
