The Role
This is an important role within our Digital Studio as the main purpose is to help deliver enhancements to the (url removed) website and our other digital experiences. These digital experiences play a key role in driving awareness and sales of SSE’s offerings within our Retail business.
In this role, you’ll be working closely with developers, business analysts and a wide variety of other internal and third-party stakeholders, using your testing expertise to write and execute test plans to help ensure the delivery of high quality solutions.
You will provide test leadership for small to medium sized projects, defining and documenting the project test approach in accordance with the Digital Studio test policies. You’ll write test plans and provide estimates and in doing so you will write and execute test cases both manually and automated.
You’ll generate test data and define the environmental requirements and you will contribute to the test automation framework. Furthermore, another key part of the role is to help mature and develop the Digital Studio’s testing capabilities by actively contributing to the continuous improvement process.
Your Skills and Experience
We are looking for a proactive individual who is passionate about testing and will drive quality throughout the development lifecycle. You’ll need to demonstrate a good understanding of testing best practice and experience of applying this knowledge in your previous roles.
You should have excellent communication skills with a keen attention to detail and be able to review and critique current processes and recommend innovative solutions to problems. The ability to manage your own workload while working within a collaborative team is essential and as a senior member of the test team, you’ll use your test subject matter expertise to help mentor and guide more junior team members.
In terms of skills and technical experience, you must be able to demonstrate a solid understanding and ability within the following areas:
- Working within cross-functional Agile development teams
- Performing user acceptance testing
- Web testing across multiple browsers and devices
- Using requirements management, test management and defect management tools (ideally Visual Studio Team Services).
- Experience with a scripting or programming language (ideally C#)
- Experience with web automation tools such as Selenium WebDriver
- Ability to write SQL queries and insert/update statements
- System test, backend and API testing experience
- ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level with Agile extension is also desirable but not essential
