Purpose My client has an immediate vacancy in their Nottingham office for a Senior Civil Engineer to work within their experienced civil engineering design team. The team works for clients throughout the East Midlands and United Kingdom, providing pre-planning engineering reports/studies, designs adoptable highway and drainage works involving SuDS drainage features and private civil engineering works. SuDS drainage schemes, earthworks and highway works are designed using Micro Drainage, InfoDrainage, PDS and Civil 3D industry standard software with final drawings produced in AutoCAD. They work for a variety of sectors that include retail, leisure, commercial, general industrial, storage and distribution, hotels, institutions, residential, venues/health and fitness. Responsibilities The role would suit an experienced civil engineer who will have gained a good level of relevant detailed design experience following on from a BSc/BEng (Hons) degree grad in Civil Engineering. The role will involve all tasks associated with leading projects within the civil engineering team in support of the team's Associate. This will include primary client liaison, quoting for work, liaison with other consultants and stakeholders and management of the delivery of the projects. Design and detailing work will include, adoptable highways, adoptable drainage, earthworks and volumetrics, private SuDS schemes, private external level, private external area constructions etc. Experience The successful candidate will be have demonstratable experience working in a closely relevant field of civil engineering including the design of both adoptable and private works. They will be able to use their expertise to design and develop deliverable, policy compliant civil engineering design works. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate good verbal communication skills and be computer literate, being fully competent in the use of Word and Excel, Micro Drainage, InfoDrainage, PDS and Civil 3D industry standard software with final drawings produced in AutoCAD. Experience in a broad range of different sectors would be an advantage. On the job training will be given to develop their skills in financial management and they will work closely with the other senior members of the civil engineering team to develop their skills. About The Opportunity To meet our growing UK business needs and future development aspirations we are looking for a Senior Engineer experienced in the development of outline and detailed design solutions for flood risk management and other river engineering and drainage projects. You will be participating in projects for the Environment Agency (both regionally and nationally), Local County Councils, and other public and private clients including Water Companies, Highways England and Network Rail. Responsibilities include: Carrying out and coordinating design of flood risk management and river engineering solutions at all stages of projects, from inception through to detailed design and construction support. Appraisal of flood risk costs and benefits Technical and business case reporting Checking and reviewing of calculations and technical deliverables Producing Designers Health & Safety and Public Safety Risk Assessments Leading and mentoring junior colleagues through their technical and professional development Liaising with clients, hydraulic modellers, architects and other design team members Multi-disciplinary design coordination Here's What You'll Need Well established within your career you are comfortable with a variety of roles. With well-developed knowledge of River Engineering, you have applied this in supervising, coordinating and supporting of junior staff. You are proactive and use your initiative to drive projects and are happy to take ownership of client relationships and contribute to business development and project management. Enthusiastic about planning and delivering innovative and sustainable schemes to manage flooding, you wish to work on increasingly complex projects and build your skills in project management, business development and leadership. Essential: Undergraduate degree (2:1 or above) in Civil Engineering Ability to work effectively as part of a diverse team Excellent literacy, communication, analytical and numeracy skills Excellent interpersonal skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications Chartered or approaching chartership with ICE or CIWEM Experience in the development of outline and detailed design solutions for flood risk management schemes Experience in preparing business cases for flood risk management schemes Why Jacobs?
