Job Description

We currently have a vacancy for a Back-Up/Storage Engineer to join our team in High Wycombe. The successful applicant will be responsible for working in support of a production environment in Data Centres in the UK and branches throughout Europe and Latin America. This is a mainly Microsoft environment for an International Finance Company - comprising 2,700 users over 25 sites in 17 countries. Comprising of Active Directory, Windows 7, SCCM, Messaging infrastructure - Exchange, BES, Good, SQL Server, SQL Server, Linux. Role Requirements: * Effectively communicate the current status of all projects, problems, and issues to departmental management. * Attend departmental, project, and general meetings as to effectively represent department responsibilities along with current status as appropriate. * Participate in company provided training and perform independent training as appropriate. * Author policy, procedure and standards documents based on industry best practices and personal research and experience. * Study and analyze the performance and capacities of the systems and peripheral equipment/systems and prepare plans for future expansion and upgrades. * Assist the senior engineers to ensure that all servers are running at optimal capacity. * Proactively identifies opportunities for improvements to existing processes and for automation of time-consuming tasks. * Install system patches and application updates as directed. * Conduct audit compliance assessments and initiate corrective action. * Devise, apply, and monitor backup and recovery solutions to ensure protection of data. * Provide technical and operational support in designated technology areas and projects as directed. * Execute operational support of corporate, branch and service centre operations and all associated server hardware and software. * Resolve incident management tickets as they arise and ensure timely resolution. * Plan, prioritize, and provide vision with schedules for assigned software and / or hardware changes. * Perform critical system changes after business hours. * Perform other duties as assigned * Understands and promotes GMAC's policy on Treating Customers Fairly (TCF). * To ensure ongoing adherence to all relevant compliance regulations that may govern the GMAC UK Plc business and complete all regulatory knowledge training where applicable in a timely fashion Some after-hours work and periodic 24x7 on call support will be required. Experience: * Successful candidate will have several years experience working with Wintel technologies, in a hands on capacity. * Experience of supporting global organizations, and large scale technology migrations * Experience of technical migrations for company mergers, acquisitions, separations essential * Strong EMC Avamar experience v6 * Data Domain * VMware vCenter * Tivoli Storage Manager * RedHat Enterprise Linux v5 and v6 * AIX v6 and v7 Skills/Knowledge: * Minimum 2 years of experience with Avamar and Data Domain * Minimum 2 years of experience in information technology. * Minimum 1 year of experience with Unix and/or Linux server operating systems. * Minimum 1 year of experience with networking and integration * Basic knowledge of transmission / connectivity protocols * Basic knowledge of server hardware. * Basic knowledge of server virtualization technologies. * Basic knowledge of cross platform integration. * Ability to communicate quickly, clearly, concisely, appropriately, and intelligently; must foster open communication, speak with impact, listen to others, and write effectively * Possess critical thinking and analytical skills with an ability to evaluate complex problems and issues quickly and accurately in order to recommend or take the most appropriate course of action If you feel that you are a good match for this role then please apply today
