Make architecture choices that balance speed and scalability, knowing when "temporary" becomes "permanent." Build and enforce engineering hygiene that doesn't slow you down (testing strategy, CI/CD, observability, sensible release practices). Partner tightly with Product and Design (and operate effectively when they're not in the room) to prioritise, sequence, and ship the highest value increments. Mentor engineers and help establish a high trust, high ownership culture. Location and Reporting Work Location: This role is based out of our London office and follows a hybrid schedule. Team members work onsite Tuesdays through Fridays, with flexibility to work remotely on Mondays unless an approved workplace accommodation is in place. Reports to: SVP, AI. Strong engineering judgment under uncertainty; ability to simplify and still build something great. Experience building cloud native services and/or modern user experiences that scale. Comfort working across boundaries: product, design, customers, and platform dependencies. Product judgment sufficient to ship: ability to frame problems, define MVP scope, make trade offs, and drive to measurable customer outcomes. Preferred Qualifications Startup or internal incubation experience. Experience integrating AI/LLM capabilities into product experiences responsibly. Track record of accelerating teams through strong technical leadership. Experience operating in PM light environments where engineers help drive prioritisation and discovery alongside delivery. Senior Software Engineer, Product Engineering, UK
Alumni Ventures Cambridge, Cambridgeshire
Hi I'm Abhik, Ashby's Co-Founder and VP of Engineering. We're looking for an ambitious full stack engineer who is laser focused on solving customer problems and making the right long term investments to solve them not only today but in our future features and products. What Ashby gives you in return is the best of both early and growth stage environments. The agency and no nonsense of a seed startup: you write product specs, make product and design decisions, and build in an almost no meeting culture. While also the product market fit and scale of a growth stage startup: tens of thousands of daily users who depend on your software and eagerly await your next feature. We have notable customers including Notion, Linear, Shopify, and Snowflake. About the Role And How We Work Our engineering culture strives to recreate the environments where we do our best work. I started my career building software for artists in the Visual Effects industry; success relied on my ability to be a product manager and designer. No daily stand ups, no t shirt sizing, no planning meetings. As a Product Engineer, you'll take ownership over a large portion of one of our products and own projects end to end (wearing hats traditionally worn by product and design). You'll research competitors, write product specs, make wireframes, and more. Designed and built automated interview scheduling that calculates possible times from interviewers and other constraints, presenting these times to the candidate for selection via our responsive web app. Built a generalized declarative filter architecture that allows users to create complex filters for any record with a consistent UI and compiles it to SQL in our backend. Specced, designed, and implemented a feature that lets users complete signing offers entirely within Ashby. What We're Building We're building talent acquisition software that removes blockers for recruiters. A recruiter needs to manually collect availability from candidates, identify qualified interviewers, perform "calendar tetris," schedule on the earliest date possible, and make last minute adjustments while considering interview load. We automate this workflow and provide insights into where they're failing. Qualifications & Fit Not afraid to tackle any part of the technology stack, whether frontend, backend, or infrastructure. Experience with projects that have product and technical ambiguity. Balance speed and quality; built high quality products on long timelines. Ambitious, always looking to improve skills and take on new challenges. Excellent collaborator and communicator, vetting decisions with stakeholders and working with other engineers. Seek to create leverage in work by automating or abstracting tasks. Not a Good Fit For You Need company driven process and structure to finish projects. Only want to do exciting work; prefer high level tasks over implementation. Get lost in details; prefer everything planned upfront. No prior ownership of projects; used to tasks assigned by leads. Want to mentor early career engineers; most team members are senior or above. Expect a tech lead primarily to project manage or do architecture reviews. Benefits Competitive salary and equity. 10 year exercise window for stock options. Unlimited PTO, encouraged to take time. Minimum 12 weeks fully paid parental leave. Generous equipment, software, and office furniture budget. $100 per month education budget; higher costs covered with manager approval. Top tier health insurance for US residents, 100% premiums covered; high quality supplemental insurance for other countries. Ashby provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetics, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. We are committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce and welcome people from all backgrounds, experiences, perspectives, and abilities. Compensation Range: £103K - £137K

Senior Software Engineer
Bite Engineering
Senior Software Engineer Location: London (flexible working with 3 days per week regularly expected in office) Job Type: Full-time Salary & equity: £100k+ Tech Stack: React, Typescript, Python, C#, Azure Must-Haves: Experience: 8+ years, including a track record of shipping production systems Back-end experience - ideally Node.js/TypeScript in a production API context and comfortable reading across other languages (C#, Python) Solid grasp of distributed systems fundamentals: async queues, event-driven workflows Track record of hiring and growing engineerings Comfortable in a startup environment where you're building the process alongside the product What will make your CV stand out: Experience with LLM/RAG pipelines in production (embeddings, vector search, retrieval quality measurement) Familiarity with Autodesk Platform Services / AEC data formats (IFC, Revit, ETABS, SAFE, or similar) Experience with Windows desktop application development (.NET / WPF / native integrations) Background in construction, structural engineering software, or document-intensive vertical SaaS Knowledge of graph-based data models, entity resolution, or knowledge graph tooling Having said that, don't worry too much about having experience with the specific tech stack - we are generally looking for people with strong core engineering skills and principles. The team are polyglots who believe specific technologies are just tools for tackling problems. The Company Structural engineering firms need effective design change management to avoid costly delays and manual design change propagation. Structural engineers work across a fragmented ecosystem of tools with no shared source of truth - ETABS models, SAFE analyses, Autodesk drawings, Excel specs, PDFs, emails. Bite is building an effective automated design change management product for structural engineering firms preventing costly delays, manual design change propagation, and errors. Our platform does two things that today require weeks of manual work: natural-language search across a project's entire file ecosystem, and cross-file impact detection ("I changed Column C7 in the structural model - what drawings, schedules, and specs are now out of date?"). Both are powered by a single underlying engineering-knowledge graph built on content-addressed file storage, per-file structured extraction, and a canonical entity resolver that unifies concepts across file formats. The Role You'll be one of the first engineering hires. You'll work directly with the founders across the full stack: a Node/TypeScript backend API, a React frontend, a C#/WPF Windows desktop connector, and Python ML/RAG workers. The codebase is in production and serves paying customers. You'll own significant parts of it, drive the architecture of the entity-resolution layer that everything else depends on, develop contracts between our services and eventually help hire and mentor the team that grows around you. This is an early role at a really exciting company with everything that implies - equity, influence over the technical direction, and the kind of hard problems that don't exist at bigger companies. What You'll Own: Ship features across the full stack. The platform is polyglot by design - you don't need to be expert in every layer, but you need to be comfortable moving across them. Strong in at least one of (but comfortable reading the other): Node.js/TypeScript backend Python async/ML pipelines Experience designing and evolving APIs and async event-driven systems (queues, workers, content-addressed storage) The instinct to keep things simple under pressure Comfortable having high ownership and autonomy. This is a very hands-on, delivery-focused role in a start-up environment. Because of this, there are always times when we need to come up with a short-term tactical solution to deliver something a little quicker than we would like. You will have a strong focus on code quality but also on flexibility and pragmatically paying off tech debt. We believe passionately in thorough automated testing so, whilst we don't necessarily care about strict TDD practice (i.e. tests DRIVING the development - written first), every PR must have the appropriate E2E tests, unit tests or eval harnesses. We own and have responsibility for the entire platform - its deployment and its reliability - so we also completely control our own CI and CD processes. The team is an autonomous and empowered multi-disciplinary one. Hiring Process We have a culture of respecting people's time and we know you'll have loads of other options, therefore we have a quick turnaround time and will let you know as soon as we can after each stage. Ask ANYTHING. The whole process is as much about making sure we're a fit for you as much as the other way around. Initial screening call (5 mins) Call with the VP of Engineering where you'll show us some of your code (30 mins) Pair with and get to know a member of our engineering team (1-2 hours) Reference checks + offer Must Haves Good communication skills - we are constantly communicating in very technical language to each other one minute; semi-technical language to (for e.g) the product manager the next; and in layman's terms to non-technical people the next. We value clarity above speed. Strong core engineering skills - we are generally looking for strong engineers with experience building reliable systems and taking responsibility for them, not necessarily people with a lot of (or any!) experience in our specific tech stack. Kindness, curiosity, optimism & drive - we, as a team and as a company, believe in being kind over being nice. We are constantly giving and receiving constructive feedback and we are always trying to be empathetic. We're all growing together and on a mission to create something bigger than ourselves that will leave a mark. We have to be optimistic when we hit inevitable roadblocks, curious about everything, and driven to be at the forefront of creating new products and change. About Bite Bite Engineering is an Equal Employment Employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or any other legally protected status. We want people from all walks of life to feel valued for their individuality, thrive in our business and share a sense of belonging.
