Additionally, if you've taken time away from your career and are ready to return, we offer a range of supportive opportunities designed to help you confidently step back into the workplace and continue your professional journey. Are you ready to take on a role where your work truly matters? As a Principal Systems Engineer in our Advanced Engineering Delivery & Consultancy (AEDC) practice, you'll be at the heart of programmes that protect the UK and secure its future. These are complex, high-profile projects that demand creativity, precision, and collaboration - and they need people who thrive on challenge. Description Our Principal Machine Learning Engineers are technical leaders who shape the direction of intelligent systems across Apple. In this role, you will own the end to end lifecycle of an internal generative AI system at global scale - from pre training LLM strategies and reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF) through fine tuning, alignment, evaluation, and production deployment. You will architect and deliver standalone AI powered products and platform capabilities that operate reliably at global scale. You will establish rigorous benchmarking and evaluation frameworks to measure LLM performance across accuracy, latency, safety, and fairness dimensions. You will drive model customisation strategies, including prompt engineering, parameter efficient fine tuning (LoRA, QLoRA), and full fine tuning, tailored to diverse product requirements. You will design and build production grade inference systems, working across Swift, Java, and Python to integrate ML capabilities seamlessly into Apple's ecosystem. As a senior technical contributor, you will set engineering standards, mentor engineers, and influence the technical roadmap for generative AI adoption across the organisation. Responsibilities Lead the end to end development and productionisation of LLM based systems, from upstream training and reinforcement learning (RLHF/RLAIF) through fine tuning, alignment, and deployment of standalone, globally scaled products Design and implement comprehensive LLM evaluation and benchmarking frameworks, assessing model quality, safety, bias, latency, and cost efficiency to inform model selection and customisation decisions Architect production inference infrastructure that meets Apple's performance, privacy, and reliability standards at global scale, including model optimisation, quantisation, and efficient serving strategies Drive model customisation and adaptation strategies (prompt engineering, retrieval augmented generation, parameter efficient and full fine tuning) to deliver differentiated product experiences Build end to end AI powered products and features, taking full ownership from problem definition and prototyping through production release, working across Swift, Java, and Python codebases Establish engineering excellence across the ML development lifecycle, including robust testing, reproducibility, monitoring, documentation, and CI/CD for model and data pipelines Partner with research, product, design, and platform teams to translate emerging capabilities into scalable, user centric solutions - acting as a technical bridge between research innovation and product delivery Mentor and elevate ML engineers across the team, raising the bar on technical quality and fostering a culture of rigorous experimentation and engineering craft Minimum Qualifications Extensive hands on Machine Learning engineering experience, with a demonstrable track record of shipping ML powered products at scale Deep, practical expertise in LLM fine tuning, alignment, and customisation - including reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF), parameter efficient fine tuning (LoRA, QLoRA), prompt optimisation and LLM evaluation and benchmarking strategies (accuracy, latency, safety, cost) Strong software engineering proficiency across Python, Swift, and Java, with the ability to contribute production quality code across Apple's technology stack Experience building and operating enterprise grade ML pipelines (data preparation, distributed training, model optimisation, serving, and monitoring) in cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure) or on prem environments Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated ability to deliver end to end AI products - from problem framing and experimentation through to globally deployed, production grade solutions Published papers in top conferences in ML/Statistics/Maths/compsci. Experience with pre training or continued pre training of large language models, including data curation, curriculum design, and training stability at scale Expertise in reinforcement learning techniques for model alignment (RLHF, RLAIF, DPO, PPO) and safety/red teaming methodologies Deep familiarity with advanced agentic frameworks and architectures (LangChain, LangGraph, DSPy, AutoGen, or equivalent), including multi agent orchestration and tool use Experience with multimodal AI systems (text, image, code, speech) and cross modal reasoning Track record of building and shipping standalone AI native products - not just features - with direct accountability for user impact and product quality Contributions to open source ML frameworks, published research, or patents in relevant areas Expertise in inference optimisation techniques: quantisation (GPTQ, AWQ), speculative decoding, KV cache optimisation, and hardware aware model compilation Strong data engineering instincts - comfort designing data pipelines, curating training datasets, and producing high quality aggregated datasets at scale Demonstrated technical leadership: setting architectural direction, driving cross team alignment, and mentoring senior engineers At Apple, we're not all the same. And that's our greatest strength. We draw on the differences in who we are, what we've experienced and how we think. Because to create products that serve everyone, we believe in including everyone. Therefore, we are committed to treating all applicants fairly and equally. As a registered Disability Confident employer, we will work with applicants to make any reasonable accommodations. Apple will consider for employment all qualified applicants with criminal backgrounds in a manner consistent with applicable law. Learn more

Backend Engineer
Gradient Labs Limited
Backend Engineer At Gradient Labs, we're on a mission to make exceptional customer service the norm. Founded in 2023, we've quickly gone from an idea to a growing team with customers you know (and probably love). Our AI agent helps businesses handle even the trickiest, high stakes customer support queries safely and effectively, all while giving them the visibility and control they need to trust the outcomes. We're a small but mighty team of builders from leading companies like Monzo, Pleo, and Google. We work in a hybrid model from our London office, a short walk from Liverpool Street Station, where we collaborate and connect 2 3 days a week. If you're excited to tackle some of the hardest problems in AI and help shape the future of customer operations, we'd love to hear from you. How you'll make an impact This isn't a maintenance role or a feature factory. At Gradient Labs, you will own systems that matter - from the first architectural decision through to production, scale, and everything that breaks along the way. You'll work on the infrastructure that makes autonomous AI agents actually reliable in the real world. That means building for failure, designing for observability, and shipping with conviction - not waiting for a perfect spec that will never arrive. Build the OS for AI Agents - Contribute to a safe, scalable platform that lets us iterate on autonomous agent capabilities faster than anyone else. You are building the infrastructure that makes AI actually work in production. Ship Resilient Systems - Design and own systems that hold up under failures, retry storms, and resource starvation - with full observability baked in. Reliability is a baseline, not an aspiration. Take Products from 0 1 Scale - Scope something from scratch, make the early architectural calls, and stay responsible for it as it grows. We build with conviction and we see things through. Move Fast, Ship Often - Iterate in small increments. Multiple deploys a day. Comfort with ambiguity is not optional - it is the job. The mission moves faster than the roadmap. What you'll bring Substantial tenure building production software at a fast growing company - fintech, AI, consumer tech, or any environment where pace and stakes were both high Proven experience owning complex, high stakes systems end to end - not handing off at merge, but staying accountable through observability, iteration, and scale Deep fluency in Go (Golang) and comfort operating across a modern backend stack (PostgreSQL, Temporal, GCP, Kubernetes) A product instinct that goes beyond technical elegance - you think from the customer backwards and bring that into every architectural decision Senior, Staff, Principal or Distinguished level in practice - someone who has operated with real scope and real accountability Genuine excitement for autonomous AI as a platform shift, not a trend - you want to build the infrastructure that makes agents genuinely reliable Strong opinions, loosely held - conviction without ego, and always willing to be wrong in pursuit of the right answer Why join Gradient Labs? This is a unique chance to be part of a team working with cutting edge technology to reshape how businesses will operate in the future. Over the next 10 years, every company will need to embrace AI powered operations to stay competitive, and this role puts you right in the middle of that transformation. You'll tackle challenging and new problems, work with some of the most exciting brands across different industries, and be surrounded by a passionate, smart team that's driven to build something groundbreaking.

AI Senior Principal Engineer
CBRE Group, Inc.
Principal AI Engineer (London) CBRE is building the future of AI driven data governance and analytics at enterprise scale. We're looking for a Principal AI Engineer to lead the charge - someone who can architect solutions, ship code, and use AI to move fast. This is a new, high impact individual contributor role reporting directly to the Senior Director of Data Governance and Engineering. You'll have a clear path to building and leading a team as we scale - embedded in a 20 person governance and engineering team, working at the intersection of AI/ML, data quality, and master data management. Why This Role Matters at CBRE AI is not a future capability at CBRE - it's the next phase of how we operate at scale. Our data estate spans commercial real estate transactions, property assets, and client relationships across the globe, and the volume and complexity of that data demands intelligence, not just automation. This Principal Engineer will be the first to architect and ship AI native solutions across our governance and MDM programs - defining how LLMs, agents, and ML models become embedded in how CBRE manages and trusts its data. Your First Mission (Months 1-6) Build a proof of concept using LLMs to automate data stewardship in our Reltio MDM platform - specifically, AI driven entity matching and merging. Prove that LLMs can make our data cleaner, faster, and smarter. From there, you'll help shape how CBRE adopts AI across data governance, analytics, and beyond - moving from proof of concept to production, and from one use case to many. What you will be doing: AI/ML Solution Architecture Architect and implement AI/ML solutions that drive data quality, governance, and analytics at scale across CBRE's enterprise data estate. Integrate LLMs via our internal Ellis AI platform into data workflows - entity matching, classification, quality scoring, and anomaly detection. Design agent frameworks and RAG pipelines that connect CBRE's proprietary data assets to LLM capabilities in a governed, production ready way. Evaluate emerging AI capabilities and translate them into prioritised, implementable solutions aligned to CBRE's governance and data strategy. Platform Engineering & Delivery Build production systems using Python, AWS, Snowflake, and Reltio APIs - you architect and you ship. Use AI to write code - we expect you to move fast with modern AI assisted development tooling and set the standard for the team. Embed AI capabilities into existing data pipelines and governance workflows, ensuring solutions are scalable, observable, and maintainable in production. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement Collaborate cross functionally with data engineers, governance teams, DQ engineers, and business stakeholders to identify and prioritise AI use cases. Partner with the Collibra and SODA engineering leads to identify where AI can accelerate metadata enrichment, DQ automation, and stewardship workflows. Evangelise AI adoption across the data team - teach, mentor, and influence how CBRE thinks about AI and data at every level of the organization. What You Bring Must Haves Experience building production data and engineering systems with demonstrable delivery at enterprise scale. Deep hands on experience with LLMs - not just using APIs, but architecting solutions: prompting strategies, RAG, fine tuning, and agent frameworks. Expert level Python and modern ML/AI frameworks. AWS experience - you know how to build, deploy, and scale on cloud infrastructure. Track record of shipping AI products that solve real business problems - not just prototypes. Architect + implementer mindset - you design elegant systems and roll up your sleeves to build them. Nice to Haves Experience with Master Data Management (MDM) or Reltio specifically. Snowflake expertise - data modelling, Snowpark, or Cortex ML. Prior work in commercial real estate or large enterprise data environments. Familiarity with Collibra or SODA - understanding how AI augments governance and DQ platforms. Our Stack AI Platform - internal LLM platform with OpenAI, Gemini, and more, Claude Cloud - AWS Data Warehouse - Snowflake MDM - Reltio Data Governance - Collibra DQ Platform - SODA Integration - SnapLogic Languages - Python (primary), SQL Applicant AI Use Disclosure We value human interaction to understand each candidate's unique experience, skills and aspirations. We do not use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to make hiring decisions, and we ask that candidates disclose any use of AI in the application and interview process. We welcome all applicants.
