Technical Team Lead (Contract)
Xcelirate
Who Are We? Xcelirate develops technologically-advanced platforms which are accessed by thousands of users every minute! We are proud to offer a workplace where the sharpest developers come together to strategically plan and swiftly execute practices which see us maintain our existing market dominance and attain global expansion. We owe our success to our customers who have seen us grow across a decade, and our talented team who have made that growth possible! What are we looking for? You're a principal-level engineer first. The tech lead title is almost incidental. It just means you're the person the team orbits around, because that's what happens naturally when you're the one who understands the system most deeply and keeps the clearest head under pressure. The 10% that's people management fits inside your engineering work, not alongside it. You hire, you steer, you unblock, but you do it the way a strong engineer does everything: with good judgment, minimal ceremony, and no interest in making it a bigger deal than it is. You are still, genuinely, happiest close to the code and driving projects forward. You are also more than happy to take ownership over driving them forward. Programming languages don't impress you. You've used enough of them to treat them as what they are: different syntaxes for expressing the same fundamental ideas, some more suited to the problem than others, none worth being religious about. You've written things in languages that no longer exist, maintained systems built on frameworks that peaked at a conference talk in 2013, and learned the hard way that novelty and progress are not the same thing. When you join a new codebase, you go quiet and start reading. You find the abstractions that are holding up weight, identify the ones that are just decorative, and build a mental model of the whole thing before you touch anything. Then you make one small, careful change, and the way it lands tells you everything you didn't yet know. You have strong, well-earned instincts around performance. Hot-path optimisation, speculative execution, lazy initialisation: these feel obvious to you, and you've mostly stopped being surprised when they don't feel obvious to others. You know where latency actually hides, and it's rarely where the team thinks it is. You profile before you optimize, but you usually already know what you're going to find. Your system design isn't flashy. It's load-bearing. You've seen enough over-engineered architectures to have a near-allergic reaction to complexity that isn't earning its keep. When you design something, it's because you've thought about what it needs to do in two years, not just the next sprint. Once you've got your footing in the project, you'll build the team around it. You know how to hire for this kind of work. You're looking for engineers with genuine curiosity, sound instincts, and the humility to learn a system before trying to improve it. You'll form a team that can own hard problems. Getting that right is important to you, but it's not where you live. Where you live is in the work itself. In a well-reasoned commit. In a system that behaves exactly as it should at 3am when nobody's watching. In the quiet satisfaction of a codebase that's a little more honest than it was before you touched it. The homelab is always running something. You'll tell us about it if we ask, and we're asking. If this reads less like a job description and more like a description of you, good. That's what we were going for. What will you be doing? Manage your own and your team's time while adhering to priorities set by the company Own complex engineering problems end-to-end, from problem framing and design through to delivery and iteration Take responsibility for critical areas of the platform, ensuring they remain reliable, performant, and maintainable Build new features and improve existing ones across our platforms. Refactor legacy and modern codebases pragmatically, balancing long-term health with delivery needs Write tests (unit, integration, and end-to-end) to ensure software reliability. Be involved in every phase of the software lifecycle, from ideation to deployment. Participate in (and at times lead) deep technical discussions, helping drive sound decisions and trade-offs Work hands-on across backend and frontend systems, stepping in wherever the problem lives Identify inefficiencies and help streamline workflows, reducing unnecessary work. Collaborate closely with other senior engineers, raising the bar through example rather than authority Take ownership of your work, ensuring high-quality results and maintainable solutions. What will you bring along? 15+ years hands-on experience building and maintaining complex web applications Have been directly responsible for development and successful (or not so successful) release of multiple major projects from their inception to production and subsequent operation In your portfolio there are multiple projects that you have worked on for more than 2.5 years Clear technical communication; able to explain and defend design decisions to senior engineers and non-engineers alike Expert PHP developer (12+ years); Symfony or equivalent frameworks 10+ years modern JavaScript; React or Vue (Next/Nuxt a plus) Expert level knowledge in at least one more programming language (Python a plus) Full-stack architecture expertise: monoliths, services, and hybrids Power user cloud deployment and scaling (AWS preferred) experience and abilities Expert Linux user; including daily containerized workflows with Docker Expert in infrastructure automation: Terraform, Ansible Power user level CI/CD pipeline and release workflow ownership Experience in automated testing: unit, integration, E2E; TDD where appropriate Expert level knowledge in and around web security fundamentals: auth, authorization, data protection, secure coding Legacy + modern codebase fluency; ability to work on incremental modernization Strong independent technical ownership and accountability We are always looking for the best candidates, so if you think you would be a good fit even if you don't meet 100% of the requirements, we would love to hear from you! How We Support Our Contractors An annualised rate of €145,000 + retention bonus scheme: Competitive contractor rate with a generous bonus paid every 6 months based on your time with us. Top-Notch Workstation: We provide a MacBook or Dell, branded merchandise, and everything you need for an optimal work environment. Global Co-Working Access: Work from a global network of co-working spaces to keep your work-life dynamic and flexible. Flexibility: Enjoy full flexibility in work location and hours, supporting a work-life balance tailored to your needs. Events and Gatherings: Participate in exciting events throughout the year, including team gatherings, cultural events, and other fun activities.

Senior Data Scientist - (Clinical Trial Recruitment)
Our Future Health
Our Future Health is an ambitious collaboration between the public, charity and private sectors, designed to help people live healthier lives for longer through better prevention, earlier detection and improved treatment of diseases. We will speed up the discovery of new methods of early disease detection, and the evaluation of new diagnostic tools, to help identify and treat diseases early, when outcomes are usually better. With over 2.5M volunteers across the UK, we're now the world's biggest health research programme of its kind, and our volunteer group is also more diverse than other similar health research programmes. Technology and data are central to our mission. Our systems power web sites, clinics across the UK, secure analytics and research systems, pipelines that process highly sensitive health and genetic data, and we are continuing to grow our data science capability to support this ambition. Through our newly launched Clinical Research Recruitment Service, we enable clinical research teams to find the right participants, faster. As this service grows, we have a unique opportunity to transform proven, expert-led recruitment workflows into scalable technology that enhances, rather than replaces, clinical judgement. Our ambition is to deliver increasingly seamless recruitment experiences for customers by building data led capabilities that capture what works best today and make it repeatable, reliable, and scalable tomorrow. In the near term, this means building better data foundations and tools that support expert-led recruitment as it works today. As we learn what can be reliably standardised, these capabilities will increasingly support more streamlined and self service ways of working for customers. Senior Data Scientist will help turn this ambition into reality by shaping the data foundations and technical capabilities we build. You will bring a strong understanding of clinical recruitment workflows and apply it to the design of data products, analytical services, and enabling infrastructure. Working closely with engineers and scientific and operational experts, you will help guide how our recruitment technology evolves, ensuring it delivers immediate value while positioning us for long term scale. What you'll do Work closely with science, data and engineering teams to understand how recruitment feasibility and cohort selection are delivered in practice, and how customers engage with these outputs Help translate existing recruitment workflows into clear data and technical requirements, supporting engineers to build capabilities that reflect operational and user needs Contribute to the development of data products and services that underpin recruitment delivery, from internal tools used by expert teams through to capabilities that may later support customer facing workflows Build and maintain production quality code, with a focus on trust, transparency, and fitness for use in a regulated environment Support early prototyping and iterative delivery, using hands on experience to inform what is ready to be standardised, automated, or scaled Define and document data requirements and pipeline logic, assumptions, and quality checks, working with others to ensure recruitment outputs remain reliable, interpretable and auditable as usage grows Collaborate with governance, privacy and compliance colleagues to ensure ethical, regulatory and data protection requirements are embedded into how data is used and shared Share insights from delivery, customer interactions and data usage to help inform priorities and sequencing as recruitment technology evolves over time This role will be fully hybrid with the expectation we get together in our Holborn, London office at least once per month. We welcome applications from all who may not feel they match the full criteria, so if you have most of the below, we'd like to hear from you: Significant experience applying data science or advanced analytics within health, life sciences, or clinical research contexts Strong understanding of clinical research recruitment, feasibility assessment or cohort identification workflows, and how these are delivered in practice Experience working with real world health or clinical datasets (e.g. electronic health records, registries, or research cohorts) Ability to translate clinical and operational requirements into clear analytical and technical approaches Experience collaborating closely with software engineers on production systems, including contributing to the design of data pipelines or services Strong programming skills (Python preferred, SQL, and version control) with the ability to write maintainable, auditable code suitable for production use Familiarity with working in regulated or governed data environments, with an appreciation of ethical, privacy and compliance requirements Experience working in or alongside CROs, digital CROs, clinical research organisations, or clinical technology companies is desirable Comfortable working in ambiguous problem spaces, where requirements emerge through delivery, learning and iteration Able to communicate complex concepts clearly to both technical and non technical audiences, and to contribute effectively within cross functional teams Pragmatic, thoughtful and motivated by creating real world impact through collaborative problem solving. Senior Data Scientist
Warden AI Ltd.
About Warden AI AI is being deployed across every industry, transforming how decisions are made and how people interact with technology. But as adoption accelerates, so do concerns about bias, accuracy, and accountability. Warden AI safeguards this transformation by making sure AI systems are fair, transparent, accurate, and explainable. Founded in 2023 and backed by investors from Playfair, Monzo, Onfido, and Codat, our platform continuously audits AI models, delivering independent oversight through dashboards, reports, and certifications. With teams in London and Austin, we partner with both fast-growing platforms and global enterprises to enable the responsible adoption of AI worldwide. Read why Playfair Capital invested in Warden AI. About the role We are hiring a Senior Data Scientist to define the analytical standards that underpin our evaluation of high stakes AI systems. The role spans fairness evaluation, rigorous statistical analysis, and an applied understanding of hiring and selection procedures. Most candidates will start strongest in one of these areas and develop depth across all three, enabling you to influence everything from how we design tests and interpret results to how we guide customers, shape product decisions, and meet the expectations of an evolving responsible AI landscape. You will report to the CTO and work closely with the founders and product team across hands on analysis, methodological design, and strategic thinking. Your work will elevate our analytical standards, strengthen the confidence customers place in us, and play a central role in establishing Warden as the standard setter for rigorous, defensible evaluations. As one of our early data hires, you will have high agency to shape both how our analytical function evolves and the scope of your own role as we grow. What you'll do Here are a few examples of things you might be working on: Set and uphold rigorous analytical methodology. Define the statistical tests, fairness metrics, sampling strategies, and evaluation frameworks we rely on, and embed the checks and validation patterns that keep our analytical work accurate, reproducible, and defensible. Translate regulations and standards into practical tests. Work with our policy experts to translate legal requirements, guidance, and emerging HR and AI standards into clear, defensible audit methodologies. Design the foundations for audit execution. Create the datasets, test frameworks, workflows, and analysis patterns that enable consistent, efficient, and high quality audits. Take a long term, strategic view. Identify emerging risks and opportunities in the industry and the AI landscape, and help define how our AI assurance approach should evolve over the next 12-24 months. Guide the evolution of our long term data capabilities. Anticipate the data assets and analytical foundations we will need as our product expands and the market and industry context evolves. Define how we analyze and interpret results. Establish the principles, evidence thresholds, and approaches for handling uncertainty and limitations, and help the team communicate findings clearly and consistently. Support key high stakes conversations. Bring technical authority on data, methodology, and context to stakeholder discussions and help address detailed questions with confidence. Contribute to documentation and external credibility. Write accessible explanations of our approach and contribute to white papers, blog articles and industry reports to help build trust in our work. What you should bring Relevant academic or equivalent background with a strong, professional senior level track record over 6+ years and deep expertise in some of the following areas: Designing and implementing rigorous evaluation methodologies for responsible AI in production, including black box and counterfactual approaches, with strong probabilistic reasoning and inference under uncertainty. Evaluation data engineering, including designing synthetic and curated test datasets under privacy/PII constraints, grounded in external reference sources, with strong judgement on realism thresholds and the validity limits. (Nice to have) HR analytics or I O psychology, with experience in selection processes, adverse impact analysis, validity considerations, or defensible evaluation practices. Fluency in Python for analytical work. You're comfortable using Python for statistical analysis, data preparation, and reproducible evaluation workflows. Grow expertise across domains. You take ownership of your development and quickly build expert level competence across all parts of the role. Comfortable with both depth and ambiguity. You enjoy tackling open ended analytical problems, reasoning through uncertainty, and bringing structure where none exists. Thoughtful and rigorous. You care about evidence, clarity, and defensibility, and you take pride in producing analysis that stands up to scrutiny. A clear and responsible communicator. You can explain complex ideas simply, adapt your message for different audiences, and help others make informed decisions. Collaborative and high agency. You like working closely with founders, engineers, and customers, and you move work forward even when information is incomplete. Context aware and able to connect dots. You track how regulation, standards, customer needs, and industry expectations evolve, and use that context to inform decisions and shape direction. Motivated by impact. You want your work to matter, and you're excited by the chance to help shape how AI assurance is done as the field matures. This role isn't for you if You prefer narrow, well scoped analytical problems. The work spans statistics, regulation, HR practice, product, and customer context. You need complete information before acting. Many decisions rely on judgment under uncertainty and evolving guidance. You don't enjoy creating structure from ambiguity. You'll help shape frameworks, workflows, and evaluation patterns as we grow. You'd rather follow established methods. This role involves defining and refining our evaluation process for AI systems. You're uncomfortable owning the quality bar. You'll often be the one deciding if an analysis is defensible enough to publish. You prefer to stay behind the scenes. You'll join high stakes customer conversations where clarity and judgement matter. You avoid work that blends analysis with explanation. Turning complex results into clear, responsible guidance is core to the job. You prefer to avoid external scrutiny. The role involves sharing our work with enterprise stakeholders and the wider ecosystem, and contributing to public facing materials to build trust and credibility. What we offer: £100 120k+ base salary + meaningful equity in rapidly growing business 33 days holiday (incl. bank holidays) Hybrid working model (we spend 3 days/week in our London office) Learning and Development budget of £500 per year Interview process Our interview process involves the following stages: Initial screen (40min) - Intro call with our CTO to align on your background and the role. Founder screen (40min + 40min) Conversation with our CEO about values, how you collaborate in a high agency, fast moving environment, and how you turn expertise into customer and market trust. Conversation with our CTO/Data about your analytical judgement, how you identify what really matters in ambiguous, high stakes evaluations, and your clarity of communication. Take home task - Short analytical case study that reflects the kind of real world evaluation challenges we face and sets the stage for the on site case review. On site interview (80min) - A collaborative case review and a conversation about the strategic impact you could have on Warden over the next 12-24 months. Reference checks & Offer - We move quickly from references to a clear offer. If you have any specific questions or want to talk through reasonable adjustments ahead of or during the application, please contact us at any point at Equal opportunities for everyone Diversity and inclusion are a priority for us, and we are making sure we have lots of support for all of our people to grow at Warden AI.
