AI Infrastructure Architect
Huawei Technologies Research and Development (UK) Ltd Edinburgh, Midlothian
Job Vision In an era where computing power is evolving toward full intelligence, AI training and inference are driving a comprehensive reconstruction of the foundational software stack. With the launch of Huawei CloudMatrix super-node clusters, the architectures for AI model training, inference, and agent systems are undergoing unprecedented transformation. Enabled by multi chip heterogeneous acceleration, ultra high speed interconnect, high bandwidth memory, and multi tier compute pooling, the industry is reaching a critical turning point: AI can no longer rely on traditional cloud resource scheduling and service frameworks. It requires a newly rebuilt, model and intelligence centric infrastructure - AI Infra. Against this backdrop, we have initiated development of a new AI Infra & Agentic Serving architecture. Our goal is to build a unified AI foundation that allows LLM inference, multimodal processing, and agent workflows to operate on CloudMatrix super nodes with extreme performance, scalability, and stability. This will become a core enabling capability for future Huawei Cloud, on device intelligence, and industry scale model platforms. In this role, you will help define and build: AI native Runtime and Serving framework: redesign inference execution paths, orchestration logic, model lifecycle and data flows to fully exploit super node hardware features such as memory pooling and fully interconnected high speed fabrics; Agentic AI core infrastructure: provides base level state management, KV Cache system, and efficient retrieval capabilities for agent memory, tool calling, workflow execution, and multi agent collaboration; Next generation serverless AI: implements Function as a Service (FaaS) inference, near instantaneous scaling, multi model hybrid loading, cold start optimization, and peak throughput mode on the unified Runtime; Performance and cost engineering at ultra scale: deliver industry leading performance, latency, and cost efficiency under scenarios such as billion level QPS, multi model sharing/co hosting, and multi tenant isolation. Here, you will face the most critical challenges for AI Infra in the next decade: How do we design a truly AI native execution framework on super node hardware; How can we make agent memory more efficient and support continuously improving reasoning; How do we achieve optimal trade offs under hardware constraints, power budgets, bandwidth bottlenecks, and scheduling limitations; How do we build the world's leading AI serving platform? This is a position that offers end to end design participation from "Hardware Capabilities AI Runtime Agent Systems". Your work will influence Huawei's future LLM platform, the capability boundary between industry level knowledge workers and agents, and the design of the next generation AI Runtime. Join us, and you will not only be building a system - you will be shaping the foundational standards of the intelligent era. This is one of the few positions where technical insight, systems architecture, and engineering execution converge to the highest level, offering a uniquely creative and impactful stage in your career. Key Responsibilities: Architecture Planning: design a unified AI Infra & Serving architecture platform for composite AI workloads such as LLM Training & Inference, RLHF, Agent, and Multimodal processing. This platform will integrate inference, orchestration, and state management, defining the technical evolution path for Serverless AI + Agentic Serving within the company. Agent Serving Framework: design a heterogeneous execution framework across CPU/GPU/NPU for agent memory, tool invocation, and long running multi turn conversations and tasks. Build an efficient memory/KV cache/vector store/logging and state management subsystem to support agent retrieval, planning, and persistent memory. Serverless AI Foundation Design: build a high performance Runtime/Framework that defines the next generation Serverless AI foundation through elastic scaling, cold start optimization, batch processing, function based inference, request orchestration, dynamic decoupled deployment, and other features to support performance scenarios such as multiple models, multi tenancy, and high concurrency. Performance and Cost Optimization: Leverage Huawei's self developed hardware stack and End Edge Cloud co optimization to deliver AI infrastructure with industry leading performance and throughput, ultra low latency, and best in class observability. Frontier Technology Insights: continuously track cutting edge developments in Serverless AI, LLM Serving, and Agentic AI, generate structured insights, and feed them back into architecture evolution and product roadmaps. Cross Team Collaboration: serve as a team leader, working closely with accelerator, operating system, cloud platform, and AI application teams to drive successful deployment of the architecture solutions in real world business scenarios. This job description is only an outline of the tasks, responsibilities and outcomes required of the role. The jobholder will carry out any other duties as may be reasonably required by his/her line manager. The job description and personal specification may be reviewed on an ongoing basis in accordance with the changing needs of Huawei Research and Development UK Limited. Person Specification: Required: Strong foundational knowledge in system architecture: proficient in computer architecture, operating systems, and runtime environments; familiar with large scale distributed service architectures and the fundamental principles of storage and networking; Serverless & Cloud Native experience: hands on experience with FaaS/Serverless architectures; familiar with cloud native optimization technologies such as containers, Kubernetes, service orchestration, and autoscaling; Expertise in AI Serving: deep familiar with the core mechanisms of mainstream LLM Serving technologies (e.g., vLLM, SGLang, Ray Serve, etc.); understand common optimization concepts such as continuous batching, KV Cache reuse, parallelism, and compression/quantization/distillation; Experience in Agentic AI domains: solid understanding of the basic architecture and typical components of Agentic AI/AI Agents (Memory, Tool/Function Calling, Planner, Executor, Multi Agent Collaboration, etc.); clear understanding of memory organization, retrieval, and state management; Performance analysis and optimization skills: proficient in using profiling/tracing tools; experienced in analyzing and optimizing system level bottlenecks regarding GPU utilization, memory/bandwidth, interconnect fabric, and network/storage paths; Programming and engineering capabilities: proficient in at least one system level language (e.g., C/C++, Go, Rust) and one scripting language (e.g., Python); able to maintain high code quality standards and follow engineering best practices; Communication and architectural articulation skills: able to clearly articulate complex architectural solutions and collaborate across multiple teams and regions to shape future technology choices and roadmap evolution. Graduate Data Engineer: Remote-First with Mentorship
Optima Partners Edinburgh, Midlothian
Role overview Optima Partners is a practitioner-led data and AI consultancy, working with some of the UK's most recognisable brands to solve complex data and customer challenges. We are growing our engineering team and looking for bright, motivated graduates who want to learn from experienced practitioners and grow into exceptional data engineers. As a Graduate Data Engineer, your first three to six months at Optima will be focused on building your foundations. You'll work on internal projects and engineering accelerators - the tools, frameworks, and intellectual property that underpin our client delivery - alongside a semi-structured training curriculum covering our core technologies, consulting practice, and engineering standards. Once you've built that foundation, you'll move onto live client engagements alongside experienced Optima engineers, taking on progressively more scope as your capability grows. You'll be supported throughout by a dedicated mentor and a development pathway aligned to the Optima Engineer framework, which covers technical depth, client interaction, and communication. This is a developing graduate pathway which means you'll have input into how it evolves. Key Responsibilities During your first three to six months Foundations and Training: Work through a structured onboarding and training curriculum covering our engineering toolkit, consulting foundations, and delivery expectations, with regular check-ins and clear progression milestones. Internal Projects and Accelerators: Contribute to internal engineering projects and the development of our accelerators - reusable frameworks, tooling, and IP that we deploy across client engagements - giving you exposure to real engineering problems in a lower-pressure environment. Hands on Engineering: Write clean, well tested code that follows team standards, participate in code reviews as both author and reviewer, and apply sound engineering practice from your first commit. Mentorship and Development: Work closely with your mentor and senior engineers to build technical depth, take ownership of your development plan, and make active use of our training budget and allocated learning time. As you move onto client engagements Pipeline Development: Contribute to the design, build, and maintenance of data pipelines under the guidance of senior engineers, taking on increasingly independent scope as your experience grows. Client Delivery: Join live client engagements alongside experienced Optima engineers, gaining exposure to real world consulting across sectors including energy and utilities, financial services, and pharmaceuticals and healthcare. Problem Solving: Work on real world technical problems building technical depth and engineering judgement over time. Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Produce clear technical documentation for the work you contribute to, and share what you learn with the wider engineering community through writeups, brown bags, and internal sessions. Collaboration: Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, stand ups, and team discussions - asking good questions, flagging blockers early, and learning how effective engineering teams operate. Skills and Experience What we'd like you to bring Degree: A recent or upcoming bachelor's or master's degree (typically 2:1 or above) in a computing, data, or AI focused discipline such as computer science, software engineering, data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or a closely related subject. Programming: Some exposure to at least one language commonly used in data engineering - Python, Java, Scala, or similar. We don't expect production experience, but you should be able to talk through code you've written and explain your thinking. SQL: A working understanding of SQL and relational concepts - gained through coursework, projects, internships, or self directed learning. Data Fundamentals: A basic grasp of how data is stored, moved, transformed, and served. Familiarity with data modelling, warehousing, or distributed computing concepts is a plus. Cloud Curiosity: Any hands on exposure to a major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is welcome. If you haven't used one, a genuine interest in getting hands on with cloud data services is what we're looking for. Version Control: Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows from academic projects, internships, or open source contributions. Problem solving Mindset: Evidence that you can break down an unfamiliar problem, reason about it logically, and make progress without being told exactly what to do. Experience Level 0-2 years of professional experience. This role is suited to recent graduates, those in their final year of study, or early career professionals moving into data engineering from an adjacent technical background. Internships, placements, dissertations, final year projects, personal projects, and open source contributions are all relevant - we're interested in what you've built and what you've learned, not only what you've been paid to do. No prior consulting experience required. We'll teach you what you need to know. Personal Qualities Genuine curiosity and a self starting attitude - you enjoy understanding how things work and dig in when something doesn't make sense. Strong verbal and written communication - you explain technical ideas clearly, ask good questions, and listen before jumping to conclusions. A collaborative and adaptable mindset - you work well with others, take feedback constructively, and support colleagues. Intellectual honesty - you're comfortable saying "I don't know, but here's how I'd find out." Resilience and pragmatism - consulting environments shift, priorities change, and the best engineers adapt without losing momentum. Location and Working Pattern This role is remote first. Our engineering hub is at 44 Charlotte Square, Edinburgh, and we particularly welcome applications from candidates based in or near Edinburgh and its surrounding universities. Occasional travel to the Edinburgh office, other Optima offices (London and Bristol), or client sites should be expected. Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK. What We Offer A dedicated mentor and a clear development pathway aligned to the Optima Engineer framework. A protected three to six month ramp up focused on training, internal projects, and accelerator work before client deployment. Exposure to a wide variety of clients, sectors, and modern data technologies, not a single tech stack in a single industry. A training budget and certification support, plus allocated learning time to build depth in the areas you care about. Competitive graduate salary and a wider benefits package covering your financial, physical, and emotional wellbeing. A clear progression route into our Core Data Engineer role as your capability matures. About Optima Partners Optima Partners is a data and AI consultancy headquartered in Edinburgh with additional offices in London and Bristol. We combine practical strategy, data, and advanced AI to help some of the UK's and world's leading organisations realise the latent value in their customers and operations. We work across a broad range of sectors - with deep, long standing engagements in energy and utilities, financial services and banking, and pharmaceuticals and healthcare. Our client base ranges from FTSE 100 enterprises to scaling challenger brands, giving our engineers genuine variety and breadth of experience across their careers at Optima. We are a practitioner led organisation that invests heavily in our people - through mentorship, training, and development - and have recently been recognised as both an Emerging Star and Best Performing Company in IT Consulting at the Megabuyte Emerging Stars Awards 2026.

The AI Security Institute is the world's largest and best-funded team dedicated to understanding advanced AI risks and translating that knowledge into action. We're in the heart of the UK government with direct lines to No. 10 (the Prime Minister's office), and we work with frontier developers and governments globally. We're here because governments are critical for advanced AI going well, and UK AISI is uniquely positioned to mobilise them. With our resources, unique agility and international influence, this is the best place to shape both AI development and government action. About the Team AISI's Chem Bio (CB) team conducts technical research to assess evolving AI capabilities related to science R&D and CB misuse, and the effectiveness of technical safeguards that might mitigate risks arising from those capabilities. The goal of our research is to inform critical decisions on security, opportunities, policy, and risk mitigation made by governments and AI developers. We're a close-knit, unusually interdisciplinary team-made up of machine learning researchers and engineers, software engineers, virologists and bacteriologists, behavioural research scientists, biosecurity experts, long-standing CB policy specialists and talented generalists-who work closely with other technical and policy teams across government. Senior Software Engineer
Antler
UNITED KINGDOM, REMOTE / FULL-TIME We're building the digital infrastructure that makes clean energy work in the real world. Seventy million machines run on diesel. The alternatives exist. But the operations are complex, the supply chains are still emerging, and for most companies the transition feels risky. That's the problem we're solving. Logiq Systems builds the operational intelligence layer that makes clean energy work in the real world. One platform for fuel suppliers, rental companies, and asset operators to deploy, monitor, and optimise hydrogen, battery, solar, and alternative fuel systems - at the scale and reliability that industries actually need. We're live across construction, events, and industrial sectors with customers including Toyota, Balfour Beatty, Acciona, Sunbelt Rentals, and Protium. The technology works. Now we're scaling the team that scales the business. If you want to work on infrastructure that matters, in a company early enough that what you do shapes the industry, we'd like to hear from you. Role Summary: We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer (full-stack) to develop the Logiq platform. Working closely with our Head of Product, you will be responsible for building software that forms the core of our main business, as well as defining the long term technical direction of Logiq Systems. Who we are today: Logiq Systems was founded in 2020 and is currently a team of five. Aran Bates and Ben Lindley are the founders, two friends turned colleagues. We are both dads of kids less than 5 years old (two each). Having both worked on this for two years self funded (although now venture backed) we are driving a huge market shift in off grid energy. While it is one that won't change with the speed of the AI bubble - this is infrastructure and hardware, not some Al wrapper over ChatGPT - it delivers sticky and lasting change with our customers and the industries we touch. As a team our passion and mission is improving the world around us, making it better for people and the planet. Our purpose pushes us to be the force of change in this industry. Not just in environmental sustainability by making the world less polluted from carbon, noise and poor air quality, but also in creating a supportive company flexible to the realities of modern life. A company with a diverse, equal, and respectful workforce. What does that really mean though? Well we recognise that talent can exist anywhere in the UK and that people have life commitments that can overlap with traditional 'core hours'. We are remote first: As a team we are spread across the UK from Edinburgh to London, this means we can work with the best people out there. We also recognise the importance of building a sense of team, meeting regularly (at least once a quarter) and put a lot of emphasis into team building in the 'virtual' work environment also - e.g. daily team video calls, non work Slack channels such as one specifically for sharing the music we are listening to. Although for this role there is a preference to have a candidate within around an hour of travel to Edinburgh or Oxford to work with the founders or the Head of product in person more regularly. Flexible working: To manage the interface of life and work we operate a flexible working policy, at the start of every week we have a whole team standup and in that we clearly communicate as a team what commitments people have that might cut into the working day or lead to a hard stop at the end of the day, so that as a team we can ensure that life and work fit together. Supporting women and primary carers in tech: Both Ben and Aran fully recognise the importance of building a supportive working environment for women and parents so they can continue a career, while remaining supportive and attentive to both kids and work. This has been heavily influenced through their experience as fathers and with partners who continue to have successful careers, while sharing parenting loads. The team we are building: The team we want to build is one where we are: Passionate about making a difference. We are pushing change through a traditional market there meaning there are naysayers, so it is very important we have strong belief in the change we are driving. Flexible and comfortable with ambiguity. We must be flexible as the market is early and developing. You will be shaping a new offering in the clean energy industry right from the start! Extremely self motivated with a strong work ethic. We are a small team and need people to own their work. We also work hard because we love what we do! Fun! We need to enjoy what we do, while still being proud about the quality of our work. Humble, authentic, and honest. We give credit where credit is due. We can respect, support and celebrate others for the value they bring. Comfortable being challenged. We believe in creating an environment where we feel comfortable and safe enough for ideas to be challenged in a constructive manner. Curious. Curiosity drives improvement and innovation. Always ask why. The Role: As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for the long term technical direction of the Logiq platform and products, which provide real time operational intelligence for connected clean energy assets. You will be designing and developing new products, features and improvements to the Logiq platform, delivering value to our growing customer base and the key capabilities required to evolve our growing business. As a senior member of the team, you will also have direct input into the product direction, working closely with the Head of Product to shape how Logiq develops as we scale. You will also be the champion of software engineering best practices across Logiq Systems. A few of your responsibilities: Design and develop full stack features using React, Python, PostgreSQL and serverless technologies (AWS Lambda, Fargate). Design and implement RESTful APIs and event driven systems. Maintain, extend and improve optimisation, alerting and forecasting models. Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines. Ensure high quality code through peer reviews, automated testing, documentation and adherence to software development standards. Take ownership of the technical architecture and engineering processes. Collaborate closely with a small startup team. To thrive in this role: We expect you to: Be comfortable with variety and shifting priorities. Early stage companies require adaptability, and you'll be working across very different types of tasks. Take ownership of outcomes, not just tasks. You'll be given problems to solve, not always detailed instructions on how to solve them. We'll provide context and support, but you should be confident running with work and coming back with solutions or thoughtful questions. Balance quality with speed. Early stage work requires knowing when "good enough" is better than "perfect but late". Ask questions and challenge ideas respectfully. We value curiosity and constructive input across the team. We value people who bring their perspective and aren't afraid to ask "why?" or "what if we tried ?". Equally they are comfortable with their ideas also being respectfully questioned. We put the problem being tackled in the middle. What you'll need to do this job: Full stack: Proven experience in full stack software development. We are using Python (REST & GraphQL) for the backend, React for the frontend. Cloud architecture design: Proven experience in scalable cloud architecture design. API design: Solid understanding API design (REST & GraphQL). SQL/NoSQL databases: Experience working with SQL (Postgres) and / or NoSQL databases. AWS: Familiarity with the AWS Serverless stack and event driven architectures. Customer Mindset: We value engineers who have a strong product and customer centric mindset. Communication: Excellent communication and collaboration skills to explain ideas clearly. Collaborative and low ego approach: You contribute positively to team culture and work well with others. Agile: Comfortable with very lean/agile processes. We want you to be involved in all phases of the development lifecycle and bring your unique talents to the process. DevOps: Experience with DevOps including setting up and managing CI/CD pipelines and terraform deployment. AI enabled: Comfortable with leveraging AI to better assist developer workflows and rapid prototyping Testing: A strong testing mindset. If you think you meet most of the criteria, please get in touch! Experience we'd love to see: Experience in developing high scalability systems Experience with IoT data collection and processing pipelines. We are using a combination of Node-RED, MQTT, Telegraf, Linux, Python, InfluxDB and TimescaleDB. Experience with integration of 3rd party systems Experience with statistical modelling, ML optimisation & forecasting Strong data analytics skills Experience in early stage start ups, consulting, or high growth environments where you've navigated ambiguity and taken initiative Experience working on (renewable) energy products or telemetry producing systems Location: United Kingdom, Remote full time . click apply for full job details
