The candidate should ideally have experience in working on one or more of the above topics, or be able to demonstrate relevant experience in adjacent technologies and be motivated to work on the above. The role would suit someone with a strong academic background, or who has worked in industry on the development of low TRL technologies, potentially taking them through to product. A higher degree or equivalent experience in Photonics, or a closely related engineering/physics subject, would be an advantage. The role will involve leading the delivery of innovative research and development projects. Although not essential, we particularly welcome applications from candidates with experience in managing projects, or teams. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate skills and experience in at least some of the following areas: • Systems engineering, design, and systems thinking • Model driven engineering and design-for-manufacture • Experience in the use and application of optical technologies (e.g. lasers, imagers, optoelectronics, optical fibres, lenses/filters) • Modelling (such as Matlab/Simulink, Python, MathCAD); e.g. parametric modelling, systems simulation, image processing and analysis • Electronics design and specification • Applied software development and/or embedded processing The candidate must be able to attain UK SC clearance.
