The Opportunity This is your chance to build the foundational systems for 'Citi Assist', a Generative AI assistant that will reach every Citi employee globally. You'll join us on the ground floor, becoming a core builder on a high-visibility platform that sets the standard for how a global bank adopts this technology safely and at scale. Here's what makes this role unique: we know that data is the key to building a successful, safe, and scalable generative AI assistant. The difference between a good AI product and a great one isn't just the model-it's the testing, evaluation, and feedback loops that make it better every day. As a data-focused full-stack engineer, you'll help us craft the tools and systems that let us understand how Assist is performing, where it's succeeding, and where it needs to improve. You'll work across the stack, building everything from intuitive dashboards that surface insights to robust backend pipelines that process evaluation data at scale. What You'll Do Build the tools that make Assist great. You'll design and build the testing, evaluation, and feedback systems that help us understand how our AI assistant is performing in the real world. This means creating tools for both our team and our users to provide feedback, analyse interactions, and measure quality. Work with data across the full stack. You'll build data pipelines that collect and process evaluation metrics, create visualisations that surface insights to the team, and design APIs that power our testing infrastructure. You'll be equally comfortable writing SQL queries as you are building React components. Own your features end to end. You'll take responsibility from conception to production. That means understanding the problem we're trying to solve, designing the right solution, building it, and measuring whether it's working. You'll drive your work forward with autonomy while keeping the team aligned. Build with safety and quality in mind. For us, building safe, sound, and compliant systems is non negotiable. You'll help us establish the data practices and evaluation frameworks that ensure Assist meets our high standards for quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. Set the technical direction. As a VP level engineer, we expect you to influence how we approach problems. You'll mentor other engineers, contribute to architectural decisions, and help establish best practices for how we work with data across the platform. Be a great teammate. We expect you to be a leader in our engineering culture. That means offering thoughtful code reviews, unblocking your peers, sharing what you learn, and helping raise the bar for the whole team. We succeed together. What We're Looking For We know that people from underrepresented groups are less likely to apply if they don't meet 100% of the criteria. Your work will change lives. Including your own. Recursion is a leading, clinical-stage TechBio company decoding biology to industrialize drug discovery. Central to its mission is the Recursion Operating System (OS), a platform built across diverse technologies that continuously expands one of the world's largest proprietary biological, chemical, and patient centric datasets. Recursion leverages sophisticated machine learning algorithms to distill from its dataset a collection of trillions of searchable relationships across biology and chemistry unconstrained by human bias. By commanding massive experimental scale-up to millions of wet lab experiments weekly-and massive computational scale-owning and operating one of the most powerful supercomputers in the world-Recursion is uniting technology, biology, chemistry, and patient centric data to advance the future of medicine. In this role, you will Build, scale, and operate a data platform. You will be a member of the platform team responsible for building, operating, and tuning a data platform that allows users to discover and query across the breadth of our data at Recursion, which includes a chemistry library of billions of compounds, petabytes of cellular microscopy images taken in millions of different experimental contexts, and millions of assay results, all supporting Recursion's drug discovery. Build relatability into a heterogeneous dataset. At Recursion, we generate datasets based on a wide swath of diverse biological models and treatment approaches. You'll work with biologists, chemists, and data scientists to build relatability and query ability into these datasets so they can be used in the future to answer the sorts of questions we haven't even thought of asking yet. Act as a mentor, coach, and sponsor. You will share your technical knowledge and experiences, delivering impact, learning, and growth across teams at Recursion. The Team You'll Join You will join the Data Lake team that built and maintains our Data Lake/house. The team is responsible for relational and object storage and has the motto: all data flows to the Data Lake. The team solves the problem of making our diverse data discoverable, queryable, and relatable across datasets while we continue to add new data modalities as we grow. This will require collaboration with many different groups including teams building out reports, dashboards, and applications, teams finding and generating the required data for machine learning problems, and teams building and iterating on new data processing pipelines. The Experience You'll Need 5+ years of deep experience in modern, cloud based data engineering. You have a proven track record of building and maintaining robust platforms that enable the discovery, query, and processing of large scale datasets. Expertise in Core Technologies (Mandatory). You possess advanced proficiency in Python and SQL and experience with Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, etc.), and Agentic Development (Cursor, Claude, etc.) Data Fundamentals & Architecture. You have a deep understanding of Relational Databases (Postgres, MySql, etc.) and are proficient in working with data container files (e.g., Parquet, Avro, etc.). You are familiar with Medallion Architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold) and know how to apply its principles to build scalable, reliable data products. Cloud & Platform Operations. You are seasoned in at least one major cloud provider (GCP, AWS, or Azure). You are comfortable in a 'DevOps' capacity-specifically managing the infrastructure and tools that empower other engineers to run their pipelines, rather than focusing solely on building ETL flows. Hands On. You understand the trade offs between different architectures (Data Lake vs. Warehouse) and can make high level decisions regarding CI/CD and system maintenance. Crucially, you are a "doer" who enjoys getting into the weeds of implementation, not only designing the blueprint. Collaborative Problem Solver. You thrive in environments with significant technical ambiguity. You can navigate complex systems and diverse technologies to deliver solutions that are easily monitored, quantified, and understood in production. People First Mindset. You prioritize supporting your coworkers' growth. We value a culture where meeting deadlines never comes at the expense of being a helpful, empathetic teammate. Intellectual Curiosity. While a background in drug discovery, biology, or chemistry isn't required, a drive to learn the domain and explore new technologies is essential! Our Tech Stack Tools: dbt, Prefect, Argo Workflows, BigQuery, Snowflake, Fivetran, Datastream, AI/LLM (Cursor, Claude Code, and Gemini available). Nice to Haves Experience with Search (Elasticsearch), Vector/Graph databases, or deep experience scaling within the GCP ecosystem is a significant plus. Working Location & Compensation This position can be based at either our London or Milton Park office. Please note that we are a hybrid environment and ask that employees spend 50% of their time in the office. At Recursion, we believe that every employee should be compensated fairly. Based on the skill and level of experience required for this role, the estimated current annual base range for this role is £75,900 - £101,900. You will also be eligible for an annual bonus and equity compensation, as well as a comprehensive benefits package. Values We Hope You Share We act boldly with integrity. We are unconstrained in our thinking, take calculated risks, and push boundaries, but never at the expense of ethics, science, or trust. We care deeply and engage directly. Caring means holding a deep sense of responsibility and respect - showing up, speaking honestly, and taking action. We learn actively and adapt rapidly. Progress comes from doing. We experiment, test, and refine, embracing iteration over perfection. We move with urgency because patients are waiting. Speed isn't about rushing but about moving the needle every day. We take ownership and accountability. Through ownership and accountability, we enable trust and autonomy-leaders take accountability for decisive action, and teams own outcomes together. We are One Recursion. True cross functional collaboration is about trust, clarity, humility, and impact. Through sharing, we can be greater than the sum of our individual capabilities. Equal Opportunity Employment Information (Recursion) Recursion is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected under applicable federal, state, local, or provincial human rights legislation. We move fast, value autonomy and ownership, and we are always looking for new ideas. Workplace & Benefits At Deliveroo we know that people are the heart of the business and we prioritise their welfare. Benefits differ by country, but we offer many benefits in areas including healthcare, well being, parental leave, pensions, and generous annual leave allowances, including time off to support a charitable cause of your choice. Benefits are country specific, please ask your recruiter for more information. Diversity At Deliveroo, we believe a great workplace is one that represents the world we live in and how beautifully diverse it can be. That means we have no judgement when it comes to any one of the things that make you who you are - your gender, race, sexuality, religion or a secret aversion to coriander. All you need is a passion for (most) food and a desire to be part of one of the fastest growing businesses in a rapidly growing industry. We are committed to diversity, equity and inclusion in all aspects of our hiring process. We recognise that some candidates may require adjustments to apply for a position or fairly participate in the interview process. If you require any adjustments, please don't hesitate to let us know. We will make every effort to provide the necessary adjustments to ensure you have an equitable opportunity to succeed.
