At Wireless Logic, we provide cutting edge connectivity solutions and technologies to ensure a vast array of devices stay seamlessly connected. The Role - Interstellar Squad The Interstellar Squad owns a core part of our commercial platform: the billing run- a mission critical, high volume pipeline that turns large scale usage data into timely, accurate invoices for customers worldwide. It's a technically rich domain: distributed data processing, event driven workflows, financial correctness, and operational reliability at scale. We're looking for a Staff Software Engineer to set the technical direction for Interstellar, raise the engineering bar across the squad, and guide delivery of a platform that has to stay correct, predictable and scalable as the business grows. A central part of this role is leading the gradual modernisation of a mature platform into a set of focused, TypeScript based domain services- using a strangler fig approach to extract capabilities incrementally, keeping the existing system safe and our customers unaffected while we evolve the architecture. You'll report to an Engineering Manager and partner closely with the Product Manager, Delivery Manager and engineers in the squad, as well as peer Leads across the domain. You'll have the mandate to shape how we design, build and run our systems - and the responsibility to keep the team aligned behind that direction. This role is based in the UK to work alongside the local squad and a team in Poland. You will be expected to travel to our Poland offices at least once a quarter. Key Responsibilities Set and communicate a clear technical vision for the squad's services, aligned with product and business objectives, and translate it into concrete near term work Lead the incremental decomposition of a mature platform into well bounded, TypeScript / Node domain services using a strangler fig pattern- defining seams, sequencing extractions, and protecting delivery and correctness throughout Define and uphold engineering standards for code quality, testing, observability, and operational readiness across the squad - applied consistently to both legacy and new services Own complex technical decisions end to end: articulate trade offs, choose an approach, document it, and bring the team along Drive architecture and system design for distributed, data intensive billing workflows - simplifying where we can, investing where it pays off Lead the design and implementation of SLIs and SLOs for squad-owned services (Grafana), and take ownership of their health and reliability in production Guide CI/CD and delivery practices in collaboration with the squad (GitLab), keeping cycle time short and releases safe across both old and new components Raise the bar on code review- provide thorough, growth focused feedback and coach engineers to do the same Mentor engineers at all levels, create clear growth paths and unblock them day to day; help the team build confidence in modern TypeScript/Node practices Champion AI assisted/agentic engineering (IDE agents, CLI tooling, reviews) - set norms for when and how to use it, keep humans accountable for correctness, and share practices with peer squads Partner with Product and Delivery to shape roadmaps, size work honestly and manage technical debt with intent Represent the squad in cross domain technical forums and contribute to the wider engineering direction Key Experience & Skills Required Proven experience leading the technical direction of a squad or product area, not only as an individual contributor Deep, production proven backend expertise in a modern, strongly typed stack- ideally Node.js / NestJS / TypeScript and/or PHP 8.x / Symfony Demonstrable experience modernising or decomposing a mature monolithic / legacy system into smaller services - comfortable with strangler fig, anti corruption layers, contract design, dual write / shadow strategies, and incremental cut overs Strong background in distributed systems and event driven / asynchronous processing (e.g. RabbitMQ, Kafka, SQS) Experience designing and operating data intensive, business critical services where correctness, idempotency and recoverability matter Strong command of PostgreSQL (query design, indexing, performance tuning); bonus for distributed/sharded setups (e.g. Citus) Experience owning CI/CD pipelines and release strategy in a team setting (GitLab or equivalent) Track record of defining and enforcing engineering standards- type safety, clean architecture, testing, observability Practical experience with observability and SLO driven operation of production services (metrics, tracing, logs; Grafana or similar) Strong communication and stakeholder skills: can explain trade offs to engineers, PMs and senior leadership clearly and honestly Experience mentoring engineers and developing them over time Sensible, hands on exposure to AI assisted development (e.g. Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot or similar) with a thoughtful view on where it helps, where it doesn't, and how to use it safely in a team context Preferred Experience leading a PHP TypeScript / Node transition (or equivalent cross language modernisation) Strong understanding of TypeScript at an architectural level: generics, decorators, dependency injection patterns and type system design Experience with PHP / Symfony monorepos and shared library patterns Background in billing, financial or metering/rating domains Familiarity with AWS based platforms (ECS, S3, Parameter Store, SES) Experience evolving a team from an IT delivery mindset toward a Product Operating Model Exposure to projects involving LLMs or Machine Learning in a production context What Will Make You Shine at Wireless Logic Leads with technical credibility- brings architectural confidence without becoming a bottleneck Creates clarity- turns ambiguous domain problems into simple, well structured decisions Modernises pragmatically- knows when to extract a service, when to leave it, and how to keep the lights on while the architecture evolves Executes through the team- balances writing code with enabling engineers to do their best work Manages delivery pragmatically- breaks down problems, sequences work, communicates progress and risk early Manages technical debt with intent- makes informed, defensible calls about when to refactor Partners with Product- translates business outcomes into technical plans and back again Coaches and grows people- gives direct, kind feedback and invests in the team's development Models continuous learning- including thoughtful adoption of new tooling and AI assisted workflows Why Come Work with Us? Senior Data Scientist Role type: Full time Location: UK (Fully Remote) Preferred start date: ASAP About Satalia Satalia builds enterprise grade AI systems for WPP and its FTSE 100 client base. Led by WPP Chief AI Officer Daniel Hulme, we run as a high autonomy, decentralised organisation where engineers and scientists own their domains end to end. We are building AI systems that operate on terabyte scale multimodal datasets to power the next generation of marketing intelligence. The Role Our current work includes: Agentic pipelines - multi step LLM systems with tool use, planning, and self evaluation that automate complex marketing workflows end to end. Domain adapted foundation models - fine tuning open weight LLMs (LoRA, RLHF, distillation) on proprietary WPP data for tasks like audience segmentation, creative scoring, and brand safety classification. Retrieval augmented generation - production RAG systems over large proprietary corpora (embedding models, vector indices, re ranking) that serve real time answers to client queries. Classical ML at scale - gradient boosted models, causal inference pipelines, and recommendation engines that run alongside LLM components in hybrid architectures. You will be the technical lead for projects across these workstreams: scoping the problem, choosing the modelling approach, building the training and evaluation infrastructure, shipping to production, and iterating based on live metrics. You are not handing off a notebook to an engineering team - you ship what you build. What You'll Do Design and run training pipelines - data curation, model selection, hyperparameter search, ablation studies - and be accountable for model quality on live traffic. Build and maintain production inference services (latency budgets, batching strategies, quantisation, monitoring) that serve WPP's global client base. Architect agentic AI systems: define tool schemas, orchestration logic, evaluation criteria, and failure modes for multi step LLM workflows. Work across the stack when needed - write the data pipeline, train the model, build the evaluation harness, deploy the service, and debug it when metrics drift. Set technical direction for your workstream: write design docs, make build vs buy decisions, and defend your approach with evidence. Mentor and set the quality standards for junior scientists. What We're Looking For 5+ years shipping ML models to production - you've dealt with data drift, silent failures, retraining cadences, and the gap between offline metrics and business outcomes. Deep, demonstrable expertise in at least one of: NLP/LLMs, computer vision, recommender systems, or causal inference. Hands on experience with LLM fine tuning (LoRA, RLHF, DPO) or building LLM powered systems (agents, RAG, structured generation). Strong software engineering habits - version control, testing, code review, CI/CD. Comfort with ambiguity. Many of our problems don't have a known good solution. Clear communication - you can write a one page design doc that is useful for both product managers and staff engineers. Nice to Have Experience with multimodal models. Background in marketing technology, ad tech, audience modelling, or media mix modelling. Publications at top venues (NeurIPS, ICML, ACL, CVPR) or meaningful open source contributions. What we Offer Benefits - enhanced pension, life assurance, income protection, private healthcare. Remote working - café, bedroom, beach - wherever works. Truly flexible working hours - school pick up, volunteering, gym. Generous Leave - 27 days holiday plus bank holidays and enhanced family leave. Annual bonus - when Satalia does well, we all do well. Impactful projects - focus on bringing meaningful social and environmental change. People oriented culture - wellbeing is a priority, as is being a nice person. Transparent and open culture - you will be heard. Development - focus on bringing the best out of each other.

About the Role You will join the Customer Enhancements product team as the embedded Quality Engineering specialist, working closely with Engineers, Product Managers/Owners, and Designers to deliver frequent, customer visible improvements in an agile environment. The Customer Enhancements team is well established and stable, making it a strong starting point for an external hire to build product knowledge, relationships, and confidence while contributing value from an early stage. This role is designed for a strong generalist Quality Engineer who is comfortable operating across front end and back end changes, building domain knowledge quickly, and making pragmatic, risk based decisions to keep delivery moving safely. You will be hands on in day to day testing while also helping the team continuously improve how quality is built into their work. Regardless of starting level, you will combine hands on testing with practical improvement, helping the team build confidence incrementally rather than introducing heavy weight process. The focus is on customer impact, prioritisation, and sensible trade offs- deciding what matters most to test so the team can continue to ship reliably against the roadmap. The Customer Enhancements team works in a hybrid model, with the full team coming together in the Edinburgh office at least once a week for collaboration. As such, we are looking for a local hire who can regularly spend time working in person with the team as part of their normal working pattern. What You Will Do Enhance andmaintainboth manual and automated regression testing suites, while coaching team members to build their skills in this area. Oversee and manage test infrastructure, ensuring it supports robust and reliable testing practices. Analyse, triage, and address issuesidentifiedin automated regression runs, contributing to continuous improvement. Provide testing support for client hot fixes, leadingreviewsand retrospectives to uphold quality standards. Develop and implement the quality strategy for your product engineering team, ensuring it is embedded in day-to-day practices. Plan and execute comprehensive test strategies for feature and project deliveries, collaborating with engineers, product managers, and designers. Maintain up-to-date test artefacts, such as test runs and statuses, and promote traceability throughout the development lifecycle by coaching others. Contribute to root cause analysis for bugs and defects by documenting thorough reports with diagnostic detail. Participate in planning and refinement sessions, helping the team to define clear and sufficient success criteria for deliverables. Manage and coordinate release and go live testing to ensure smooth deployment of new features and fixes.
