Software Engineer / Data Engineer
Carpata
Build the Data Infrastructure That Powers the Automotive Industry Typescript or Python Full-time London About Us At Carpata, our vision is to build the vehicle and parts data infrastructure that powers the automation of the entire automotive aftersales industry. We're working with garages, dealerships, manufacturers, parts suppliers, and insurance companies across the ecosystem. We're looking for a talented, customer-focused engineer who holds exceptionally high standards for accuracy, approaches challenges creatively, and obsesses over automation because automotive data is always evolving. This is a unique opportunity to join a seed-stage company founded by experienced entrepreneurs who have built and exited automotive tech businesses. Backed by Concept Ventures (Eleven Labs, Jigcar, Superlinked), Nosara Capital (LeafLink, Max Retail), and angels from UK automotive tech leaders like CarWow, JustPark, Autotrader, and Bumper, we have big ambitions to drive change. We're building a world-class team where you'll solve a huge pain point felt by millions across the globe in a +$2 trillion industry and do the most impactful work of your career. Join us in building the future of B2B parts. Industry-wide Problems We're Solving Eliminating Manual Parts Procurement We're eliminating time-consuming part lookups and quote creation for automotive businesses, enabling them to order the right parts, first time, confidently. Service teams will be able to instantly convert customer queries into OEM part numbers, eliminating costly returns and delays. Workflow Automation Dealership health checks automatically generate accurate service recommendations, enabling fleet operators to procure parts across hundreds of vehicles without manual cross-referencing. Integration with existing systems will create unified workflows from inspection to ordering. Democratising Parts Knowledge: Simple, Reliable Access Complex vehicle specifications and inconsistent supplier data become invisible to end users through a single, authoritative platform that anyone can use reliably. The industry knowledge shortage is addressed by making parts identification simple enough for less experienced staff to achieve professional-level accuracy. What You'll Do You'll design and build the core systems that power our platform - from parts validation pipelines and data normalisation tools to catalogue infrastructure and supplier integrations. Working closely with our lead engineer, automotive experts and founders, you'll play a key role in how our platform ingests, resolves, and surfaces complex automotive data. You'll contribute across the stack where needed but bring a backend or data-engineering mindset to solving messy, high-impact problems. Whether you're building matching algorithms, automating internal tooling, or shaping our API design, you'll be helping us turn fragmented data into simple, reliable workflow automation for parts procurement. What We're Looking For Must-Haves: The Non-Negotiables Data Expertise with High Standards Strong experience cleaning and normalising data from multiple sources Obsession with accuracy and data quality. 99% accuracy isn't a target; it's essential Experience resolving conflicts between technically correct but differently structured datasets Automation Mindset You instinctively build systems that can run without manual intervention Experience designing processes that adapt to changing data sources and formats An iterative mindset that achieves automation through continuous improvement Vision for building systems that continuously learn and improve accuracy through real-world usage The Right Engineering Approach Run at the Hard Stuff: You volunteer for complex data challenges others avoid because that's where breakthroughs happen Show the Numbers: Every decision backed by evidence, with openly shared opportunities for improvement and clear business justification Build Fast. Learn Loud: Ship the minimum that proves the point, get it in front of real users, then iterate based on what breaks Technical Foundation Strong programming skills (we work primarily in Python and TypeScript) Experience with database design, schema evolution, and query optimisation Understanding of cloud platforms and scalable infrastructure Startup DNA You've thrived in environments where you define the approach to unsolved problems You build for the diverse realities of automotive businesses - from independent garages to large dealerships You get genuinely excited when someone proves you wrong because it means you're about to make something better You take ownership of our customer outcomes, not just your outputs Nice-to-Haves: The Multipliers Experience in automotive, complex B2B domains or industries with high SKU complexity Background with data integration challenges in marketplace or e-commerce platforms Previous experience at a fast-growing startup Demonstrable interest in cars (bonus, but not essential) This Role Is NOT For You If You need problems fully defined before starting work You prefer perfecting systems over shipping solutions that customers depend on You think "good enough" is acceptable when our customers demand high accuracy You want to work in isolation rather than as part of a collaborative team where everyone's role matters You're looking for a remote-first working environment You dismiss feedback that challenges assumptions rather than getting excited when proven wrong Why This Role Will Define Your Career Infrastructure Impact Your work will become the foundation that thousands of automotive businesses rely on daily. Every accurate part match, every resolved data conflict, every automated process you build multiplies across the entire industry. Technical Ownership You'll have significant influence on our data architecture, methodology, and engineering culture. This isn't a role where someone else makes the technical decisions. Mission-Driven Culture Join a team where precision and quality aren't just values - they're how we operate. We're building infrastructure that the entire automotive industry will depend on. Backed for Scale With funding from leading investors and industry experts, we have the runway to build transformational infrastructure, not just survive. Learn from Proven Operators Work alongside founders with multiple successful exits who understand both the technical and commercial realities of scaling B2B platforms. £60-85k + up to 1% equity (early employee) Visa We cannot sponsor visas at this time Start Immediate availability preferred Hiring Process: Intro call with the CTO about the company, role and your background Technical take-home task Problem-solving session with our Lead Engineer focused on your solution to the take-home task, plus meeting the CEO Ready to Change the Automotive Industry? AI Technical Writer / Documentation Engineer (AI)
Hyperexponential
About hyperexponential (hx) At hyperexponential, we're building the AI-powered platform that enables the world's most critical decisions in a $7 trillion industry, which risks to take, and how to price them. These are the decisions that shape real world outcomes: whether rockets successfully launch into space, autonomous vehicles make it to market, or communities recover after major storms. Until now, insurance has been making billion dollar decisions using outdated tools. We're changing that. Our platform brings together data, AI, and human expertise to give insurers the fastest path from submission to decision - helping them move faster, act smarter, and take on more risk with confidence. Backed by a16z, Highland Europe, and Battery Ventures, we're scaling globally - already trusted by nearly 50 of the world's largest insurers, with zero churn and billions in premiums flowing through hx. What began as a single product in one market has rapidly evolved into a multi product, multi territory platform powering every stage of pricing and underwriting. AI is at the core of what we do - from building the world's first domain specific AI peer programmer for insurance (think GitHub Copilot with a PhD in actuarial science) to shaping agentic workflows that reinvent how this industry operates. What makes hx different is the people who build it. Here, impact isn't tied to title or tenure; it's defined by the challenges you take on and the discipline you bring. Surrounded by peers who stretch you, you'll do the best, hardest work of your life in a company engineered to endure. If that sounds like you, join us in building what comes next. About Technical Writing at hx At hx, world class documentation is a product in its own right: it drives adoption, enables customer self service, and reduces friction for internal teams. As our products scale and our AI agents depend on well structured knowledge, documentation becomes a critical part of how we deliver clarity and confidence to users. This role will sit at the intersection of engineering, product, and customer teams, creating and governing documentation that is accessible, structured, and AI ready. You'll be building this function from the ground up - our first dedicated technical writer - so you'll shape both the standards and the workflows that support adoption across hx. You'll work hands on to design documentation systems, implement AI assisted authoring, and enforce consistency across diverse content sources. With the freedom to experiment and the backing to scale your ideas, you'll create lasting impact for both internal teams and global clients. What you'll be doing Designing and delivering structured, AI powered documentation that makes hx products easy to understand, adopt, and scale. Implementing documentation standards, workflows, and governance across teams to ensure consistency and discoverability. Partnering with engineering, product, and customer teams to capture knowledge and translate it into accessible, high impact content. Building content pipelines and structures that support AI powered search, question answering, and automated validation. Introducing and refining automation and feedback mechanisms to continuously improve documentation quality. Driving adoption of documentation practices that reduce support needs and accelerate onboarding for users. What you'll need to have done Built technical documentation in a fast paced software environment that improved adoption or reduced support queries. Applied AI/automation (e.g. LLMs, workflow tools like Zapier/n8n, Grammarly, Claude, or similar) to streamline content workflows or improve quality. Designed or restructured documentation systems to be scalable, maintainable, and discoverable. Partnered with engineers, product managers, or customer teams to capture technical detail and translate it for diverse audiences. Established or championed standards for tone, style, and structure, ensuring consistency across multiple contributors. Owned end to end delivery of documentation projects, from requirements gathering through to validation and rollout. You're unlikely to thrive here if You prefer static documentation over evolving, AI driven workflows, showing proactiveness and bringing meaningful change. You shy away from experimenting with AI tools and workflows, and reluctant to learn new approaches. You are uncomfortable taking ownership of standards, quality, and consistency in your work. If reading our Culture Document leaves you feeling neutral rather than energised, hx may not be the place where you'll do your best work. We're building something that asks for commitment and conviction, and we want you to feel excited by the opportunity to grow with us. Compensation At hx, we're committed to salary transparency. You'll always have clarity on pay early in the process - our Talent Partner will share details with you during initial conversations - and we're working towards publishing salary information for all roles globally. Because we're building at the intersection of technology/SaaS and insurance, our roles don't always map neatly onto traditional benchmarks. Our approach is to design compensation that's competitive in the market, fair across teams, and aligned with the impact our people make. Equity: We offer equity across all roles at hx, making it a significant component of total compensation. Your talent partner will be able to share more details about this. Benefits £5,000 training and conference budget for individual and group development. 25 days of holiday plus 8 bank holidays (33 days total). Company pension scheme via Penfold. Mental health support and therapy via Spectrum.life. Individual wellbeing allowance via Juno. Private healthcare insurance through AXA. Income protection and Life Insurance. Cycle to Work Scheme Additional perks Top-spec equipment (laptop, screens, adjustable desks, etc.). Regular remote and in person hackathons, lunch and learns, socials, and game nights. Team breakfasts and lunches, snacks, drinks fridge, and a fun office at The Ministry. Exceptional opportunities for personal development and growth as we build something remarkable together. Interview Process Initial call with Talent team (30 minutes) Manager Interview (60 minutes) Skills Assessment - Home based task followed by interview (60 minutes) Values Interview (60 minutes) We Offer Our commitment to Diversity hxer's are at the centre of everything we build. We know that progress depends on diverse perspectives, and we are committed to creating an environment where everyone can thrive, grow, and make an impact. We recognise there is always more to do, and we take responsibility for shaping a workplace that is not only diverse but genuinely inclusive. Diversity is not just the right thing to do, it is key to solving the complex challenges we choose to take on. By welcoming people from all backgrounds and experiences, we strengthen our ability to question assumptions, push boundaries, and design solutions that endure. If you're energised by complexity and motivated to grow, we encourage you to apply and join our global team. Next steps If this opportunity resonates with you, we encourage you to apply or share it with your connections! Our dedicated talent team reviews all applications, and we promise to provide feedback regardless of the outcome. For more information about applying and to view other opportunities, you can visit our careers page. Please note that background checks will be conducted as part of the hiring process to ensure compliance with our governance policies. We handle all background checks sensitively and in full compliance with relevant regulations. All applicant data will be processed in accordance with data protection regulations and our privacy policy.

Who We Are: We're rebuilding the energy transaction system, making it transparent and fair. tem exists to put power back in the hands of people. Today's wholesale energy market is stacked in favour of the few. It's a product of an age of oil and gas, riddled with markups and middlemen. We're changing that. Our product, RED , built on a proprietary pricing engine that bypasses the wholesale market, enables businesses to buy the energy produced by renewable generators directly. That's 100% transparent transactions, ensuring affordable bills and fair compensation, to give every business ownership and control over where their energy comes from. Since launching in 2021, we've saved UK businesses and generators over £20 million, powering a growing network of forward-thinking companies, from Pizza Pilgrims to Silverstone. Backed by top-tier VCs such as Atomico and Albion, we're creating a new category in energy - one that's local, decentralised, and built on trust. The Role: We're looking for a Staff Engineer to accelerate product delivery and enable scale across our customer acquisition and customer success platforms. You'll contribute through hands on coding, drive architectural direction, and raise the technical bar across the team. In your first 12 months, you'll lead the development of systems that redefine how brokers, customers, and internal teams interact with energy services - from real time pricing workflows to intuitive self serve tools. You'll help us launch new products that streamline onboarding, improve service transparency, and lay the groundwork for rapid, sustainable growth. Responsibilities: Build with impact: Architect and deliver end to end systems, from internal automation to customer facing portals, ensuring they are scalable, fast, and user friendly. Own the platform: Improve and extend core platforms and developer tooling, making it easier for teams to build, test, and ship quality software. Drive innovation: Rapidly prototype and iterate on new workflows and product ideas that expand our offering and improve the broker and customer journey. Partner cross functionally: Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and other Engineers to scope, design, and deliver high impact solutions. Raise the bar: Lead by example through code reviews, mentorship, and championing engineering best practices across the team. Requirements: Must Haves: Track record in fast paced environments: Experience as a Senior or Staff Engineer in a high growth startup or scale up, with a strong bias toward shipping. System design at scale: Proven ability to design and build complex systems that power both back end automation and front end experiences. Modern tech expertise: Deep experience with Python, Node.js, and AWS serverless architecture (e.g., Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB). Front end capabilities: Skilled in developing responsive, performant front ends using modern JavaScript frameworks such as React. Product minded mindset: Experience working closely with product and design teams to solve user problems, not just deliver features. Can deal with ambiguity: Comfortable navigating changing priorities and incomplete information to make strong technical decisions. Desirable: Exposure to the energy sector or other regulated industries. Experience building internal tools or platforms for brokers, sales teams, or support agents. Familiarity with real time data processing or agentic/AI driven systems. Benefits & Perks: Competitive salary - our current band for this role is £101,000 or equivalent in local currency. We review salaries twice a year using real time market data, with transparent, consistent pay for the same role and level. Stock Options - everyone on the team has ownership in our mission. 25 days holiday + public holidays - Swap public holidays for ones that matter most to you. Plus, get an extra day off for your birthday . Remote & flexible working - We're fully remote with clear core hours, and no internal meetings on Friday afternoons. Home working & wellbeing budgets: Up to £1,200 / €1,200 annually to upgrade your remote setup (co working passes, equipment, etc.). Up to £150 / €150 monthly on anything that supports your wellbeing - from therapy to gym memberships to meditation apps. ️ Interview Process: Our processes normally take around 2-3 weeks from first call to offer - please let us know about any adjustments to timelines that may be required. First call with our Talent Team (30 Mins). This is to understand your experience, motivations, and discuss the role in more detail. Behaviour Interview with our Engineering Managers (60 Mins). This is your chance to really understand the role, the expectations, and ensure alignment on ways of working. Technical Interview with the Team (75 Mins). You'll meet with potential peers in this session and will discuss technical topics and experiences. Culture-Add Interview with Stakeholders (45 Mins). The final session will be with two cross functional stakeholders, and will explore how your values align with ours, and is designed to a genuine two way conversation, your chance to understand what it's really like to work at tem. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, experiences, and identities, including those that are traditionally underrepresented in the tech and energy sectors. If you're excited about this role but not sure you meet every requirement, we'd still love to hear from you. Your unique perspective could be exactly what we're looking for.
