Job: FPGA Design Engineer
Location: Lincoln
Type: Permanent
Salary: 55k 75k DOE
You will lead the design, implementation and verification of FPGA logic for advanced hardware systems. The role involves ownership of firmware development that underpins RF enabled platforms, from early concept through to integration and validation on physical hardware.
You will work closely with software, RF and systems engineers to ensure reliable interfaces and robust system level performance. This position suits an engineer capable of taking technical ownership of FPGA activity within a small, multidisciplinary engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement and verify FPGA based digital logic
Develop and maintain firmware supporting RF and embedded hardware platforms
Drive work from concept, architecture and prototyping through to integration and test
Collaborate with software, RF and systems engineers on interface definition and system behaviour
Support hardware bring up, debugging and verification on live systems
Essential Experience
Strong background in FPGA development and digital logic design
Proficiency in SystemVerilog or VHDL
Experience with FPGA development toolchains, ideally including Quartus and TCL based workflows
Solid understanding of timing analysis, timing closure, pipelining and performance optimisation
Ability to develop supporting code in C or C++, plus scripting in Python or Matlab
Experience integrating firmware into wider electronic or embedded systems
Confident use of laboratory test equipment such as oscilloscopes and spectrum analysers
Desirable Experience
Exposure to RF systems, SDR concepts and analogue or digital modulation techniques
Understanding of analogue and digital electronics, including passive components, PLLs, mixers, buses and memory architectures
Ability to interpret and make minor edits to schematics or PCB layouts, with hands on build experience considered a plus
Interest in adjacent engineering areas such as RF testing, software integration or laboratory based development
